Ladies and gentlemen, I started this thread because a few members requested it. This is a serious thread and the discussion is ready to begin. If we can stick to facts that would be great.

I would wager that all damage is done at the yo yo dealerships by yo yo employees high revving the cars and doing stupid $hit prior to the sale. (Excluding Viper Exchange and anything associated with Jorgenson or Pemberton:D)

My mechanic told me that if an engine failed it was driver related. Proper break in was a must and then have fun. Most people don't observe that at all. I know they are
Really challenged at factory but still I would rather take the advice given. The engines are built to take abuse but care should be given .

Since we are talking FACTS, that statement by your "mechanic" is about one of the dumbest things that could be said regarding this issue...and you bought it hook, line, and sinker. Must be cut from the same cloth as most Hillary supporters.

Hmmmm are you asking or assuming. Concerning said "FACTS" your little rant sounds more like woeful regret over your on insecurities. I. E. That a woman might have a bit to say about the mechanical side of a car, instead of Aww look how pretty.

This engine warranty issue is not a Viper specific issue, this is how FCA conducts business in my opinion.

This is the short version. Want details? Read on....

I'm enjoying my Viper in spite of the comments above knowing full well I'm walking on a tight-wire without a net. My car is a gently driven garage queen with less that 4K miles. I fully expect that if/when this V10 blows, it will be shoved up my a$$ in an ungentle manner and reside next to the Jeep engine that's currently lodged there. I've adopted a new dealer who has taken good care of the multiple small items I've experienced on my Viper. As expressed in other threads, the dealer is key to owner satisfaction. Unfortunately, even the best dealer has to interact with FCA on big items like engine failures and that is where I believe the problem lies.

I bought a new Viper and new Jeep Wrangler from a DFW based dealer that no longer exists. At 50K miles, the Jeep put a rod through the side of the block. I towed the Jeep to the dealer and requested warranty support. It was apparent from the moment I took the vehicle in that FCA had no intention to honor the warranty. The dealer immediately started asking me questions from an FCA checklist that in my opinion was developed to put blame on the owner.

To make a 60+ day-painful story short, my warranty claim was denied because I installed a K/N filter. Yes, I know K/N promises to help fight offending manufacturers...don't get me started on that epic fail! Being a little more than pi$$ed, I towed the Jeep to another dealer. The second dealer told me the engine should have been warrantied, and tried unsuccessfully to change FCA's position. I ended up paying Dealer 2 to change the engine.

You can imagine how happy I was to get the R28/R29 recall on the Viper a few months later.....not!

This is my experience of how FCA does business. If you want more confirmation, visit the Jeep forum and look at all the angry warranty posts.

This is the same nonsense that's going on with engine failures and after-market engine controllers. My personal opinion is the Viper community will have to lawyer up and file a class action suit to get this addressed.

I've decided to forego Viper modifications and have the dealer do all maintenance, which is certainly not what I had planned when I purchased the car. All I do is buy gas and drive.

I'm not sure how long I'll continue to be enchanted with my Viper, but I can tell you my FCA car buying days are over.

Facts: "Techs" do not have a degree in automotive engineering with research projects completed in automotive engine blue-printing.
Facts: Dealership "Techs" do not rebuild engines.
Facts: Dealership "Techs" have no independent diagnostic skills...just follow manufacturer diagnostics protocols and work on flat-rate corporate reimbursement schedules.
Facts: Dealership "Techs" comply with dealership/Corporate policies. "Work at risk"

But then again, what do I know....I'll just believe what my 'tech' tells me to do.

Darlin, I never said my mechanic was at a dealership, that's beside the point. If you just wanted my attention sweetheart, no need for bad behavior. Ultimately the question is

group. You know, the guys that are afraid a chick might really know her $hit. To bad for you. Thank goodness you were upfront about which category you fall in. Its most appreciated. I don't waste my time on useless conversations .

If you visit the other site the engine failures are a very heated topic...one of the members there has supposedly started the process of a class action law suit...

I've read everything on the forums up to this point. Some are claiming brittle piston rings, some that the cars weren't broken in properly not allowing the rings to seat causing oil blow by and introducing oil contaminates into the A/F thereby increasing the chance of a detonation occurrence. I suppose that could also lead to oil starvation if some fool didn't check the oil religiously. Everywhere else I read about this comes down to abuse and neglect...or modifications. Good luck on that Class Action brah

I can't tell you how many posts I've read from members who have modded their Gen V's...wether it be the Arrow PCM, nitrous, E-85, twin turbo, supercharger etc. In 2013-14 everybody screamed that they wanted the PCM unlocked so they could mod. SRT didn't want to do it so free enterprise created systems like Motec. Then you had people openly advising other members on the forums how to get around the warranty by putting the car back to stock prior to taking it back to the dealerships for repairs. Then came the Arrow Controllers, heads and cam packages. People want a race car but don't want to deal with race car $hit. You also have a contingent of idiots who think they can just turn the ignition and haul ass, not realizing how important it is to warm up a forged bottom end prior to driving. I let my car warm up for ten to 15 minutes before I even attempt to pull out of the driveway. I've read at least a hundred posts from people who purchased a GenV as their FIRST sports car and don't have a clue as to proper maintenance. I've watched in horror at YouTube videos of dealership employees sitting on the cars wearing jeans, turning over the ignitions and high revving them for selfie videos etc. There were cars sitting on lots for a year or more being abused by idiot employees moving the cars around or hotrodding them on the lots. How in Hell's Creation do any of these petitioners in the class action suit think they are gonna fair against FCA Sharks? They should all just get their cars repaired and go enjoy them without whining like *******.

But I did get accused by a lady in Kuwait for being racist when I had posted a reply to a contracts question stating "The monkey was on the Afghans for the next step in the proposal paperwork".....she schooled me via e-mail on how inappropriate that comment was to her.....I guess she felt it was some sort of racist slang for black people. I Googled the origins of the statement and it had NOTHING to do with a racist comment. So I guess the moral of this story is that I'm never surprised by some of this stuff....

She likes to strut around biting guys' heads off apparently. I agree partially with your assertion that "techs" dont know a lot of that stuff...but... I disagree that some of them are very good and know a lot about the internals of the motors they work on. At least at my local Chrysler dealer. Now techs at a buddies tire store? Not so much. I spent $1169+ on a water pump replacement on my Mazda (something im unable to physically handle right now) and the idiot left the IAC vacuum tube off my intake tube and the clamp off one of the radiator hoses so that it blew off and spewed fluid all over my engine bay. Luckily it did it as i pulled into my driveway and not on the construction laden part of 75N i had just been on. I asked for a refund of 2 hours of time from his paycheck, time i spent fixing and diagnosing problems myself. All i got was a free tow, fix and top off of fluids.

My comment regarding "technicians" in a general sense pertain to the large, monolithic corporate entities with a focus on volume, velocity, and bottom-line compliance over the actual customer issue being addressed. I think the small, independent operators do a better job since they tend to be established, locally owned-operated businesses. I know when I turned wrenches for a small, local Polaris and Johnson outboard dealership, by and large we did what was right by the customer. On occasion, the Factory Rep would get involved on the more controversial issues since these tended to highlight potential product issues and not just a random failure. Regardless of the final outcome, it was my impression after 8+ years of working there that we went out of our way for the customer. After university and military career, my old "boss" still wants me to come back and run the shop.

+Very nice! My kid sister is just like that as well. A real car nut and has gone through many more cars than I have....and boats, snowmobiles, RVs, houses, and so forth...including the beer element. She never got into motorcycles though...
