Get gaers put in this Friday need help on ratio

Well im going in Friday to get my rearend rebuilt and have gears put in. I cant make up my mind on the ratio I want, A little back ground on the car and what I plan on doing to it. Right now it has aluminum flywheel, full catback and a tune. I plan on keeping the car N/A and doing a head and cam swap later. I may put a supercharger on it if I find a good used kit but Im not loooking for one. I'm a weekend crusier and like stop light to stop light runs with a few high way run every now and again with a trip to the drag strip once or twice a year. I do like going on cruises with VCA every now and then. I have always been a fan of gears and have run 4:30s in my mustang for some years, so im torn between 3:73 or 3:91 and im really leaning towards 3:91. Does this sound like a good gear for what I want to do

3:73 gears are great for Stock Gen 1and Gen 2. As you go up in HP, you will want to go lower in the ratio. I would not use 3:73 with more than 500hp. Then 3:55s till about 600hp. Then drop them again as you add more power. 3;45 3:31 or keep the stock 3:07 with high
hp. I have used 3:73, 3;55, and 3:45s.

How do you like the 4.10s? How are they with highway driving? Ive done alot more reading and based off shift points and how I like to drive Im now thinking 3.73. I know everyone like 3.55 but everytime Ive gone with what everyone else goes with I always end up wishing I went a little lower.

ive driven a gen2 with 3.33 gears, that to me seemed perfect. tons of guys do the 3.55's and i cant imagine more than those.

I run 3.45. I find it much zippier off the line, but I find it a bit thirstier on the highway and the revs a bit too high for long trips.

As we all know I don't drive my car on LONG trips so that is not an issue for me. :D

I would say 3.33 would be a good in between. 3.55 would also still be very workable if you want the extra grunt due to stock power and want to to a bit of stop light racing

Are you planning on staying with stock wheel/tire diameters. I had 3.73 with few mods. After S/C, car would still hook good with V700's, but didn't care for the "constant" shifting. Dropped back to 3.33's and love 'em. If you go to 20" rears, I think a 3.73 nets out to 3.45.

I'd be curious as to how many of the replies have actually driven a Viper with 3.73's or even 4.11's?

My GTS has the 4.11's and it drives great, especially for around-town jaunts. Car just has smooth tubes, K&N, no cats, and a cat-back. It cruises along in 6th gear at 72 mph at about 1900 RPM and I get right at 19mpg like that...but I do have 19" wheels and tires.

I bought the car with 4.11's already installed but if I were doing gears myself, I would go with 3.73...not because the 4.11's are outrageous, but because these engines make so much broad torque and power that I can't imagine 3.73's would feel much different, yet they would give me just a little better highway efficiency.

With that being said, I would go 3.73 if I were you. Hope that helps.

I like the 4.10 with the OEM 18" wheels, only K&N and freeflow MAgnaflow mufflers. I wouldn't go any lower than 3:73 . When I bought my 1972 Challenger 340 new it came with 3:23 gears and had to change it
to get any get up and go performance out of it.My 68 Charger, 383 cu had 3:73 and loved it. Never liked highway gears except in my 64 Lincoln that weighs over 5000lbs, that needed the countermeasure for fuel economy on long trips.;)Each to their own, but like I said am not going to supercharge the car.I have no problem controlling my right foot:lmao:.

Ps; I keep side to side with my friend's Noble M400 0-60 and those are known to do 3.3 sec with 425 HP .He has the car tuned over 450HP with 15 ponds of boost and a measly 2350 lbs weight.One of these days I'll take the car to Mission raceway just for giggles to see what the car really does.

I just took out 4.10's and put in 3.7s. 4.10s are definitely too steep. I went to 3.7s so I could make it through the quarter mile in forth.

Thanks guys after talking with Jon at parts rack and devin at unitrax. I'll be going with 3.73. Jon really happen me out and gave me a military discount plus I'm paying the parts and labor from partsrack so I don't have to pay taxes. It's a win win. I will definitely write back on how the car feels with 3.73 once they get put in
