GTS fuel cap pins

I did a search on here and couldn't find the answer I was looking for (maybe I didn't look hard enough). I want to take the fuel cap off my GTS and dismantle it so I can polish it, but with all the pins being plastic I want to get new pins for it in the event I damage them during the dis-assembly process. Does anyone sell those plastic pins? I went to my dealership today and they could only find the complete assembly and of course its $1000.

I have been wanting to do this as well. Are you going to drill them out?

No I was planning on tapping them out with a hammer and punch so I don't risk damaging the metal parts of the cap. If it turns out they are not available I will just have to polish it assembled, but that could be tricky.

They should tap out. Also, you can use stainless hardware to re-assemble them. Looks great.

The previous owner of mine tried to clean the fuel cap with what I can best guess was acid etch wheel cleaner, it dissolved the top layer clear coat, looked like a plastic coating. I just went with the aftermarket cap with Sneaky Pete on it matching color and all. Nice upgrade.

I looked at the MGW caps and I like them a lot, but I would rather spend a little time polishing the oxidation out rather then spend $400 for a new cap at the moment.

guy that pc my rims did my old cap. It was a ***** to get apart and a ***** to to put back together but we used nice quality rivs so im happy w it. Pics to come

:EDIT: forgot to mention i have an MGW cap on it now. the pc rivet version blows it away

Do you have before and after pics? What type of rivets did you use? Aviation/auto? Standard squeezer to install or did you have to buck it with a rivet gun? Thanks. Jeff

Don't most people just use 18-8 socket head cap screws for the pins?

Do you have before and after pics? What type of rivets did you use? Aviation/auto? Standard squeezer to install or did you have to buck it with a rivet gun? Thanks. Jeff

They are just standard everyday rivets. These came from Lowes and were installed with a standard squeezer. The rivet part was really easy to do and looked exactly like it did before. The hard part was fitting all the parts back together and making the door open and close like normal.

Thanks! It's DC powdercoat. Kinda has a little texture to it. I'm liking it.

Whatever you do, don't lose the spring!! I had to buy a used assembly because I "misplaced" the pins and spring from my original cap. The 2 pieces of hardware I couldn't locate anywhere was the spring and the pin with the slot to retain the spring.
