On the clutch pedal assembly, a rod is connected to it. I'm not sure whats its called, but tonight, that rod popped off of the clutch pedal rod and my car wouldnt start. I was able to stick it back on by hand and get the car cranked, but it popped off again after about 5 mins of driving and shifting gears. My question is, what holds this rod to the clutch pedal rod? I looked in my floorboard and didnt see anything, so whatever broke off may have fallen behind the carpet or does it just pop back on the clutch pedal rod (meaning I need to put it back on by hand and just push harder?) TIA!

Chad... gonna have to start calling you Charlie Brown soon. Not such a good year for you. :(

...at least there's always your future ex-wives at *******! :D

Don't know enough to help technically, but hope you get over this without too much out of your pocket.

The clutch pivot on my '95 (same construction as the '96 RT) developed a noticable side-to-side play at around 50k miles and had to be replaced under warranty. As the dealership replaced it, I actually didn't do a headstand to see the problem, but it sounded like the end had worn off somehow.

I know, this isn't much help, but perhaps it gives you a slight idea of what might have happened. I got the impression this was a common problem with Gen I daily driver.

Some kind of a small "pin" pop off? Not sure what you are talking about, but I'll crawl under there, in my car to see if I can see what's going on, if you don't get any feedback. At least you made it home.

I feel my time is coming as the repair shop for "high mileage" Vipers.

At the end of the post that the rod slips on to is a one-piece plastic combination bushing and clip. It looks like a tiny birdcage if you can find it in your car. (image on right side)

It's more work, but while you're under there if you want to speed up your clutch action, there is a kit available...

Thanks for the pics Tom! I think the birdcage thing is still attached, it just popped off somehow. I didnt want to force it last night and break anything, so I just put it on good enough to get the car started. I'm gonna make my way out there now to see what I can see in the daylight and do some "forcing".

What is that silver clip in the 1st pic? Part of the clutch lowering kit? Where can I buy one of those kits?

As for high mileage, I hit 65k on the way home :headbang: And mine isn't even a daily driver! I bought it with 51,300 on it in April 2005, but I take it on a lot of trips to Atlanta, FL, Savannah, etc. so it gets a bunch of miles on it in lumps.

Well off to be a pretend Viper tech, thanks again :)

Looks like a standard cotter pin would fit there and hold fine. Probably less than 1 dollar to fix.

The lower part with the two lock nuts in both pictures is the kit to quicken up (and slightly stiffen) the clutch pedal. The upper pin with the ball end is the stock attachment. The picture is from the intructions to install the quicker clutch and shows you can go back and forth between the two - stock and "quicker."

Of course you can get a clutch kit! $25 includes shipping and if you need a 1/2" drill (with reduced shank to fit in a 3/8" home drill) I have them for $9.

Here's how to remove the birdcage without destroying it.

I sent you the instructions via email so you have more pictures to help your current problem and see how the kit works, too.

Mu birdcage thing broke on my former car, (95) , I just ordered another one from the dealer and popped it back in. I thinkI just rigged it with safety wire or a zip tie while waiting for the part to come in. Years ago.....

I checked mine this morning and it was still connected from the last time that I reconnected it last night (the birdcage is still attached). I then drove around for a little bit today with plenty of shifts and it never came off, so hopefully all is fine again :2tu:
