Has anyone encountered a new Mercedes E55?

I spend time in a town called Greenwich CT, where people will spend anything to look good. $189K is close to the price of a Porsche GT2, which the Greenwich dealer seems to move a slew of. That Merc will sell like hot cakes.

Ran both the new E55 and the new SL600 (with a renntech ECU and trans chip)... The E55 was close til about 100 or so then the car lengths pile on.. My friends SL600 dyno'd 600hp and close to 700 torque.. He ran an 11.88 at the track.. we ran from 50 mph on and he was close until the 120-130 range then I began putting on the distance.. His other car is a 911 GT2 with new turbos, ecu, exhaust, etc... now that's a fast car... from a 60 roll he puts an immediate 3 car lengths on me and it takes all I have to hold it there.. If you can drive and have basic bolt ons these cars really are not much to deal with.. certainly more challenging than blowing a Z06 off the road though..

I know a few guys on the MB Board who dynoed their cars and they made over 500 corrected HP. In fact someone has a CONFIDENTIAL internal MB memo stating that the E55 HAS the 496 HP engine and MB just wanted the S55 and SL55 owners feel that they are paying for more HP.

I raced a Z06 with my family and groceries in the trunk and still beat him by 2 car lengths. These cars are FAST, don't get me wrong I love my Viper, but the E55 is VERY fun and doesn't draw the attention from the local cops .

I broke my car in VERY hard and I will try to take it to the track soon and let you guys know how it does.

If anyone wants to race just for fun, I have a black 2004 E55 (bone stock) that I'd be happy to race with. I haven't raced a Viper head to head yet, but this E55 *is* faster than my 99 GTS was (even with smooth tubes, K&amp;N filter, and straight pipes.)

I ran an open track event last Sunday (Laguna Seca). There was an E55 (running Hoosiers!) in my run group. My stock GTS was slightly faster, but the E55 is awfully fast for a luxury car.

I have not seen a e55 run 11's with just exhaust, I did it in my '97 and the '02 gts. The viper can be slow if driven incorrectly.

I hate to burst your bubble...but a guy a few weeks ago at MIR in Maryland ran a 11.6 @ 124 mph with only BFG drag radials in a stock E55.

Some guys are even in the 10's now with a pulley, headers, exhaust, upgraded heat exchangers and ECU's .

I have an Audi RS6 which is supposed to compete with the E55. It is not even close to being as fast as my Viper. The Audi is a twin turbo rated at 450hp. Maybe the turbo's make a difference causing it to be slower than the supercharger. I have never encountered the Mercedes, but maybe I shouldn't race them if I do.

It's easy to modify those cars, and most owners will say they have less mods than they really do. How does a stock e55 go from 116mph to 124mph with just grag radials?

Aint no way BFG's gonna make an E55 gain 8mph in the 1/4....He obviously had a mod or two....Just cause you cant see it dont mean it aint modded...That sounds more like a chip/pulley change than stock...

Another stock car ran 11.8 @ 120MPH. I need to take my E55 to the track soon. I will post the results for ya.

If Dodge were still Dodge we would not even be having this discussion. Why would Benz allow lowely Dodge to be king of the hill? It makes no sense. I would get used to the idea of being second fiddle. We did have a nice run though.

Wow...they are hitting 120mph in the 1/4 bone stock...Jeeeezus...At least stock Vipers have a chance of beating them if driven properly....Vettes and other sportscars will be anihilated stock for stock on a highway pull..They will need mods to compete...The Carbon Coupe should put things back in order if it comes out with the 625hp I keep hearing...
