I have found that if I drive fast enough, the rain mostly just passes right over
Until the massive downpour starts of course...
Has anyone had there RT rained in????

HEY I WAS IN THE SAME STORM THIS WEEKEND TOO. I LIVE 25 MILES NE OF MCKINNEY AND DROVE TO RED OAK THIS WEEKEND TO SEE A FRIEND. I HAVE A 94RT. I WAS SITTING IN A MEXICAN FOOD RESTAURANT AND STARTED SPRINKLING. LUCKILY THERE WAS A CARWASH DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET. MAN WAS THAT A LIFE SAVIOR. IT STARTED AGAIN WHEN I WAS GOING TO INDUSTRIAL TO GET LIQUOR. FIRST TIME MY CAR HAS EVEN SEEN RAIN SINCE IVE OWNED IT. I WATCH THE WEATHER RELIGIOUSLY BEFORE I GO OUT. MAKES YOU WISH YOU HAD A 2003!

Keeps more rain out than without it - both when using 1/2 while driving and when using both halves if the car is just sitting.
BTW, you will find that you have to bail every so often with a heavy rain. The water collects in a puddle in each half - but the inside stays dry.

ive got the tonneau cover, never used it. i was told drilling has to be done to properly install it? if anyone knows of this let me know, ive had it for 3 yrs, itd be nice to use it

Hmmmmmmmmmm..I have the tonneau cover on my 96RT. I have used it a few times right after I bought the car. No drilling required. The tonneau cover has metal prongs or blades that slide into the door slits (on my non glass window roadster) and the front and rear of the cover snap to the snaps on the dash and the same snaps as the rear window...It has bags for the steering wheel and the top of each seat back...

The best thing is the gray nylon cockpit cover (Velcro to wipers, over top, hooks into rear fender wells and inside trunk) sold by Dodge. It is about $60 and comes with a Viper Logo and pouch. Has saved me more than once.

rdustman has a Gen II, so no slots for the cover. I'm not sure exactly how the Gen II works.

I agree, this is a great cover !!!
Now if you want to drive in the rain with the tonneau cover on, you will stop most of the water from getting in on the passenger side.

I agree, this is a great cover !!!
Now if you want to drive in the rain with the tonneau cover on, you will stop most of the water from getting in on the passenger side.

I went to run an errand with a friend a year or so ago and left my old 94 with the car cover on, while I rode in his car. One of those really nasty southeastern T-storms started rolling in. We were about 1/4 mile from my car when it starting pouring. Thunder & lightning for more than 30 minutes while I sat in my friends car watching my car fill with water. Luckily I was already really good at drying out my car because I had so many problems making it watertight. (Take the seats out (5 minutes), wet dry vac, leave a door open with a fan blowing in overnight)
I sure miss that car.

I had to replace the parking brake assembly because, I suspect, the previous owner let the car get rained on all the time. It was all rusted under the boot. I also had to replace the seats. They probably would have needed replacement anyway though. My 94 RT is the highest miles Viper in the world @103k. Engine replaced @95k.
I fixed it all up and it look's very nice now, new paint, new seats, black dash and associated panels, new soft and hard top, shifter, radio, 97 5 spokes, steering rack, clutch and flywheel and hydraulics, total brakes, Ballanger 3" mufflers. The only thing now is the steering wheel is slightly worn.
My advice on non wrecked fixer upers is to buy a better one instead. It's probably cheaper.

What the RT/10 really needs is a bikini top.. like the jeeps have.
Ideally it would roll up like a sleeping bag be made of the same type of nylon material and attach in seconds.
be able to drive with it .. not high speeds but just enough to cover you from a brutal sun (when already sunburned) or a quick down pour.
The reason for needing such a top is the cockpit cover is nice but can't drive with it on. And the soft top takes up lots of room in the trunk and is big and bulky.
If i only had more time to try and fabricate one... maybe when i retire in 35 years

I got caught in the rain this week end. I had the top down sunny skies one minute the next minute rain. It only rained for a couple of minutes. Just long enough to soak the inside of my car. Lucky for me I have enough leather protector etc to protect... the water just rolled off of the seats. The floor mats were a little wet. I took the car home Immediately and wiped it down. No harm done. Does the Tonneau cover keep out rain??? If so I may need to buy one. I do not want this to happen again. Gen 1 tonneau works pretty good for keeping water out if car is sitting and gets caught in the rain. The cockpit cover helps keep rain out and is beneficial even if the top and side windows are in.... as these tend to leak (more so) when the car is not moving
Gen II tonneau requires that two parts are installed (one on either windshield pillar). The instructions for installing these are inthe pouch with the tonneau cover. A fiberglass rod is slid into the front edge of the tonneau and is inserted into these parts....this replaces all the snaps on the dash of the Gen I.
I'm pondering adding the snaps to my Gen II cover since my car has the roll-up windows of a Gen II, but the dash (with snaps) of the Gen I. That way I do not need to keep that 3 +/- foot fiberglass rod in the trunk.
Side note, it is sort of fun driving around with only the drivers side of the tonneau open, makes it feel like you're driving a 50's LeMans race car

When I bought my RT/10 I noticed that the child car seat belt was a little wet. When I got it home I found out why. It had about 2 inches of water under each seat. The carpets itself was almost submersed. Apparently the idiot dealer left it outside with the hard top on it (which doesn't seal well at all).
The best advice for avoiding that is to remove the seats, loosen the carpets and underpadding and take out the drain hole plugs. I even cut out part of the underpadding as it absorbs a LOT of water.
I also don't bother reconected the wire retainers for the seat bottoms so it's very easy to remove them to get the shop vac in there.
On the idea of a bikini cover, I've been considering such a thing for a while. I hate being able to have EITHER the top off OR luggage space but never both. Any more ideas on this?
