Has anyone regretted going from a GTS to a Gen IV coupe?

I'm strongly considering selling/trading my low mile (2,900) 02 Final Edition GTS for an '08 - '09 SRT Coupe. I just love the lines on my GTS but feel its time to move to the new car for many reasons. Has anyone made this move and regretted it???
Thanks, John:2tu:

I Had a Gen II ACR and made the move to a GEN IV vert and don't regret it one bit. Now... having said that I would suggest (if you can) waiting till the GEN V Viper comes out. If you like the lines on your GTS now wait till you see the new Viper.

According to your signature, you have already made up your mind and sold the car...

You will like the Gen 4. Not necesarily "better" but "different" is more accurate...

I did not like how my 2006 felt behind the wheel, and went back to a Gen2. Seat too high, cabin too tight, nose/hood too long..

But I have not spent too much time behind the wheel of a Gen4. Im sure that would change my mind. Especially an ACR :)

I love my GTS.....but when I have a choice I almost always take the ACR regardless of the event (track day, club cruise, fun run with one of the kids).

Wow, I haven't posted in 2 years. FE 357 was my old viper I sold in 2007 along with my c6z06 and I purchased FE 101 in April, 2008. $52k +/- is what I'd like to get from mine. Very clean, stock with a few nice touches (stereo, built in radar, batt tender, mats, Corsa track with hi flo cats) Thx, John

I have both still and prefer the Gen IV ACR like Smokin' 2 said. The car is better in every way except looks IMO (but the ACR is not far behind)... :)

Totally different feel.
One thing that is INcomparable is the braking. My God once you feel the Gen 4 brakes it makes my '97 seem like a Model T...nice to actually be able to stop the car.

The shifting is so precise on the Gen 4.

I look in my garage and admire the Gen 2. Then I jump in the Gen 4 because it's such a pleasure to drive.

The Gen 5 looks better than the 4 and should be a leap forward in driving when you shut off the electronics.

yes, the braking even on the 06' was absolute night and day. The Gen2 braking is difficult to go back to. :crazy2:

01 Sapphire Bob & Sun Diego, you both reference the Gen V. I've seen several posts on this site with the magazine renderings and guesses, but is there any solid info on the new car? Which year, photo and the changes? I was @ the Last Viper off the line event this Summer and didn't get the sense that Dodge was really committed...??? Thx!

I saw it at VOI. I talked to the engineers at Spring Mountain. I liked it better than the 4, but not as clean as the 2. Dick Winkle is working on the engine, as he has for each Gen. It's happening. They do have to support the dealers and not do a full announcement until the 10s are sold.

I do think the current ACR is a collectable car.

thanks for threads like this. I do read as much as I can. Was hoping to get a 1st gen in a year but would be willing to wait longer for a 4th gen. So is the 1st gen brakes worse than the 2nd gen? I would guess they are. I know the older models do not have all the upgrades as a newer generation, that's a given fact. But I still love the looks of the first two generations over the new ones. My concern is would the difference be enough to make me regret getting an earlier edition viper.

I had a 68 vette with a 4 speed a long time ago, it was pretty crude when I compared it to my newer cars back then but there was just something nice about "driving" it.

I have a neighbor with a Gen 1. It looks like an exotic, and has amazing performance, and probably worth 20K He loves his car.

A used Gen 4 is around 60K. It performs even better, but cost 3 times as much. It isn't three times more powerful or three times better looking. They are all great.

If I could only keep one, it would be my Gen 2 for looks, but I wouldn't drive it much.

These cars are a problem on the street. I have to be committing a felony speed before the big smile comes.

Gen 5 is years off who knows where any of us will be then.
The Gen 4 will suffice for now...;)

Drive by wire throttle *****. I hate it. Rest of the car is awesome, and I have not regretted it. But I do miss the closure of throttle plate at will.

I can't disagree.
I miss the instantaneous response of the Gen 2 throttle.

As Sun Diego mentioned, there WILL be a GEN V Viper. Believe me when I say Dodge is committed to the new car. They let us see it a VOI 11. They were asking us what they did right and what needed to be changed as far as design. They were asking us what colors they should consider. They were even having us try out seats that might go into the car. From what I have heard it will be in coupe format first. Then Vert/roadster with the ACR to follow that.

I really want one but want to see what the final product looks like. So if you can hold tight there might be a SSG Gen IV for sale in a couple years. ;)

I'm sure the Gen V will be vastly improved over the previous models .Driving my gen II feels like a dinosaur compared to a gen IV , but some might say the gen II is not an ordinary dinosaur . IT IS A TREX ! And that's what I love about it ;)

Could not agree more. I had tires out on my Gen II RT/10 this past summer and after getting to driving the car again after almost a year away form it I was reminded why I love that car so much. Such a fun car to drive.

My answer is going to sound rude but it is not intended to be so. Different strokes for different folks you might say.

With only 2900 miles you seem to be more of a admirer than a driver. If I was mostly looking at one it would be a GEN II.

For all out driving nothing beats a GEN IV.

Now that all the cars I own have the throttle by wire my brain and foot have been retrained. Driving cars with and without TBW makes it hard to adjust.

Great point, Ray. 2,900 miles for 8 years is only 362/yr, but I bought in 08 with 700 miles and have put 2,200 in 2 years so I do get to drive it more than the odometer shows. These answers have all been helpful. I think the ACR is incredible, but may be over the top for cruising around town, no? ACR owners??? Do any of you just have for fun, or are all of you tracking a few times per year?. :drive:
