My GTS has Belangers installed (Roe & w/m) with the factory heat shields and spark plug shields covering the headers.

I'd like to remove the heat shields and plug shields and install some of the fiberglass/cloth boots on the plug wires. I think that would look alot better.

How necessary are the heat shields with coated headers?:dunno:

Sorry if this is a much visited topic. I tried searching and couldn't find a good answer. :dunno:

I have the w/m to combat heat soak. I had Belangers coated headers and fiberglass socks on my Gen III Ram SRT motor and it worked great, but there's a lot more room and there is the heat vent (hood scoop) on the trucks.

I have been running that same setup for 2 years with no problems. Unless you are going to be doing serious track time, or run around with a 9:1 A/F ratio so your headers glow red, I would not worry about it.

I have Belanger headers and my motor is N.A. I put the heat shields back on after the DEI heat shielding I installed on the passenger-side air box melted/burned. I guess the biggest risk is if your power steering cap comes loose an PS fluid splashes on the headers...FIRE. If you don't have one, get one of these and these. Cheap insurance.

Belanger headers. 70,000 miles with no heat shields. No problems. No excessive heat to any component I'm aware of. Plug wires are good for at least 20,000 miles (have gone 30K). No plug boots.

Make sure you have the HiPo power steering cap mod above........or easily make one

Very nice. Thanks for the links. I definitely want to get the fire extinguisher and I will check the car for the PS vent tube. ;)
