Nationwide said they'd cover me in a Viper (which says enough in itself) My rates (as close to high risk as one can get) would be $312/m as a single 25 year old. I know there are people in the non-Cali states out west scoring $500/y coverage with good records.

Where is Brownsville?

It all depends upon the state you are in, age, driving record, etc.

I live in OH and there were about 4 or 5 companies that would have insured me with PROGRESSIVE being the cheapest ($1100/year)they also specialize in high risk; trust me, they will insure anybody, but it may cost you. However, if you have a good driving record, they are competitive with anybody. http://www.progressive.com

I ended up going through a different company that carried my Homeowner's and other cars as well (discount)

However, I may move to Florida sometime soon, in which case the "no fault" insurance down there is very, very pricey regardless of your driving record.
( I still can't figure out the braintrust that worked out the no-fault scheme )

There are also some insurance folks/ Viper owners in this forum from time to time. . .good luck either way.

State Farm...multi-car discount...35 years old...single (just like taxes, married people get a discount)...No restrictions at all on policy (ie...you can only drive it every third Tuesday of the month in the summer time) $737 every six months...excellent driving record thanks to some really good attorneys in several states...email me for the list.

How do people with a LOT of money in mods and upgrades handle their insurance?? Do you itemize you upgrades and costs?

Anyone insure at an agreed value?

for the 94 RT-10 about $800

for the 2002 GTS about $900

I'm 24 and live in Los Angeles so that is two strikes against me. I do have another car insured as the primary driver so I think that has a lot to do with it. My insurance company is Allstate.

Hi,
Another option that you may think about if you are not going to drive the car alot is collector car insurance. This will not work if you use the car as a daily driver as you must prove that you have another car to drive. You can get policies with up to 5000 miles a year (maybe more) without any problems. They also have agreed upon value policies so that you know exactly what you would get if you totaled you car. As an example we have a 2000 Prowler, 1967 Mustang, and 1996 Viper GTS, all with full coverage and agreed value policy for $115.00 a month total. We do have a 3000 mile limit per year on each car but that's more than we drive them any way because we have 3 other daily drivers. This won't work for everyone but it's something to think about if insurance is a problem.

I am 21 and have a viper GTS and I have my insurane through State Farm insurance and I pay 1057.00 for 6 months and that includes 15,000.00 of insurance. I had got many other offers from prgrerssive and other Ohio insurance companies and they said that they would either not insure the car or it was outrageous for a six month policy. My opinion is to go with STATE FARM!!!!

Before I moved to Cali, I had State Farm and was very happy with them. Once I moved out here, I bought a Jeep Wrangler and told my agent. He wanted $7,500 a year to insure it. No way. $7,500 is too much for someone with a perfect driving record. I went to the progressive website and found out that Allstate would be cheaper than the other big companies. Since my move to Allstate, I have been pretty happy. My agent is very viper friendly, and even tried to buy my RT-10 off of me.

I pay less on my new 2002 Viper than my wife pays on her her new 1999 Chrysler Town & Country AWD. We both have real good driving records, but the insurance tables show mini-vans as a whole have more claims. I pay $1,200 per year for the Viper. We have $200 deductable. My insurance company even knows I have done some "neccessary" mods to my Viper and the Sean Roe Supercharger will be my next "neccessary" mod as soon as Sean ships it to me.
I'm 54, male, and married.

BTW - Insurance for my 18 year old daughter to drive my Viper is much less than for her to drive a 6 cylinder Camaro - that's how bad the drivers of Camaros & Firebirds have done as a whole to themselves.

More BTW - I haven't seriously considered letting her drive my Viper yet.

More on what Michael (AQX) said:

I definitely got a "stated amount" on the cost of totaling my Viper. If I don't tell them "X" amount of dollars minimum to total my car (god forbid) then the insurance company, regardless of how reputable, will mitigate their loss by finding the least amount that any other Viper has been totaled for, as much as 10K less than what you payed for (or still owe) on the car.

It may cost a little higher premium, but it is worth it; the last thing you need on the death of your beautiful car would be to find out the insurance company can F with you.

Anyone have any names/numbers for the collector car insurance companies?

I am paying for full coverage on several cars (the Viper runs 675 for 6 months) and only a couple will go over 5,000 miles a year...

Most people are ignorant when it comes to insurance and assume full coverage actually means something. Trust me, if you were to total your 2000 GTS, your insurance provider would probably want to settle for about $50K (if your lucky). Most carriers will take your premium $$$ and not even tell you what to expect should the car be totalled. Get an agreed value policy. Got mine from CNA insurance. Cost was $1350 year for a 2000 GTS with a stated/agreed value of $68000. Should car be totalled or unrecovered theft, insurance company gives you 3 options at your sole discretion: 1) check for $68K, they keep car 2) they find car of equivalent value agreeable to you and deliver to your door 3) They pay you x amount and you keep car (negotiable).

This kind of policy is sligtly more expensive but spells everything out before you need it.

By the way, this rate was with $250 deductible, good record, and $500K liability.
