Help: Clutch Pedal Detached - Advice Needed

Hey Guys,

Today while driving, my clutch pedal became detached from the rod under the dash. I had the plastic "bird cage" crack and break on me. If this has happen to you, you know what part I speak of. I hear it's a common malfunction to have this plastic piece/holder break. Have any of you reinforced this with anything after replacing this plastic piece. To get home I wire tied it together and also tied a shoe string around so the clutch linkage didn't slide off the shaft. Tator is sending me one of these plastic pieces. I was thinking of perhaps using a thin wire to go around as a precaution so if the piece breaks again it doesn't slid off the shaft while driving.

Any input would be awesome!!

I think there may be a metal clip available. If not, it probably would not cost much to have one fabricated. I had the same thing happen in my Gen II GTS back in 2002 ( I have not had it since 2006). I believe we replaced the plastic one with a metal one.

I'm not exactly sure what the part is that you are talking about. Do you have any pictures? The part I'm thinking of is the pedal adjustment that is controlled by the knob. Is that it?

He is talking about a clip that holds the clutch pedal to the shaft that activates the clutch. If you put your head near the clutch pedal, you can see it.

Well I ended up cutting the plastic birdcage and using it as a bushing and washer. At the end I installed one of the metal clips. I just didn't feel comfortable relying soley on that plastic piece to hold. Works perfect so far, as I expected since they are utilized on the other numerous linkage under there.
