HELP !!!!! I can\'t start my new GTS and I just got it home !!!

What's up with this ?? I just got home from a 2500 mile round trip, and I went to start the Viper to get it off my car trailer, and she wont stay running

Here's what happened; There was about a hundred mile stretch in in the last 300 miles of my journey that it was POURING RAIN, I mean cats and dogs, couldn't see beyond the hood of my truck kinda down pour. It'll fire when the key is turned, but it wont stay running beyong 2 seconds after I release the key from the start position. Yes, the car was on my open car trailer for the ride, and it's a '96 GTS. Am I doing something wrong ?? Please HELP ME !! I feel very frustrated and sad about it......

Someone will likely say the alarm has been tripped and needs to be re-set. You can do a search on the topic. Disconnect the battery for about an hour and that should re-set it.. provided that's the problem. If that's not the problem then I'm at a loss. THe first upgrade you should buy for the car is the shop manual.

Some 96's had weak fuel pumps which can give these symptoms. Try turning your key on (not to start) and listen for the fuel pump to click a few times then stop. Turn the key to off and back on. Listen again for a few more fuel pump clicks. Do this 5 or six times till you no longer hear any clicking. Then turn the key to start, and see if the car does not start right up and run well. If this happens your fuel pump will need replacement.

In addition put your car on a charger for a while to see if the battery has run down. A fully charged battery (another weak point of 96's) might also help this situation.
Enjoy your new VIPER. It make take a little sorting out as this car is now 6 years old.

A third possibility is that the alarm system is active. This will also shut the car down like that. Press your key fob a few times to deactivate.
If your fob has become off channel hold down both buttons for a while when holding it near the steering wheel . When you hear a beep you are re-syncronized.

Stand in front of the car and hold down both buttons on the key fob for about 5 seconds to reset. Then set and disarm and then start the car.

OK, Now I'm really lost.......I went ahead and did the sequence as stated. One funny thing is that the only way I can get into the car is from the rear window, and opening the little latches on the door trim at the back of the doors. I wasn't getting any responce from the remote like I did 24 hours ago. I figured the battery was bad so i put in a new one. Still nothing. Not only that, even after the doors are open, I can't seem to unlock the doors at the regular electric lock switch at the front of the door. NOTHING AT ALL. Plenty of electicity in the car, as the interior lights work, and the car will start ( for a second ). What am I screwing up ??

Yep, Now the only way into the car is through the rear window. As soon as the doors shut, it's locked up tight.

did you disconnect the main battery from the car? (behind the rear tire, drivers side)

Check the battery connection under the hood. If it is lose the car will stall.You also will have to re-snyc the key fob after new battery install.

Well, I disconnected the battery. That was interesting to say the least. Wow !!! Anyhow, I'm gonna leave it dissconnected for about 5 minutes and see what happens. Will I need to do anything specail once I conect it again ??

yeah it's fun isn't it! Just connect it back up but don't put everything back on because you may need to get back in.

It's working now !!! It starts, and stays running too. Thanks for all your help. I'm going to sleep now, I've been driving all day. I can go to bed now knowing my my toy works fine. Thanks again....

Well, I can personally testify that JH23JOB got his GTS going...super nice '96 Blue / White Striped...and he cannot stop grinnin...He was up at the cruzin spot this evening, passin out rides...He hasn't slept much, but I don't think he could anyway, and he didn't seem to mind being the only GTS, cruzin with three RT's...Congrats Dan...Cya at CC Summer Nationals!
