HELP!!!! Locking Gas Cap Locked!!

Just received a locking gas cap from Woodhouse the other day and promptly installed it. Anyway, I'm on E so I went to the gas station to get some gas but for some reason, I can't get the gas cap off. When I put in the key and turn it counter-clockwise, the gas cap completely locks and will not rotate counter-clockwise and clicks when I rotate the gas cap clockwiuse. When I turn the key clockwise, the gas cap just freely rotates both clockwise and counter-clockwise but doesn't lift up or anything. It just rotates and rotates and rotates and I can't get the cap off, even when I try to pry or lift it out.

What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something completely obvious? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

On mine, you hold the cap with one hand to prevent it from rotating, while turning the key to unlock. Once the key is turned, the top should no longer free spin. Then you can remove the key and simply unscrew like a regular cap. Hope this helps.

On mine: you put the key in, turn the key 90 degrees clockwise, turn it back, and then unscrew the cap.
