Help me select the best \'Street\' brake pad for my GTS

I'm going to be installing a new set of brake pads on my 1998 GTS (stock calipers, slotted one piece aftermarket front rotors, stock rears) for street driving, and I'm at a loss. Any opinions on the BEST STREET pad, and why? I'm looking for the following criteria (In order of importance):

1.) Stopping performance at 'street' heat levels. For example, spirited street driving, some high speed stops (180 MPH to 60 MPH) on that closed highway near my house, but NOT repeated high speed stops or extended hard braking (i.e. - road course).
2.) Pedal feel - Able to modulate the brake pedal and sense front brake lockup before it occurs. In other words, brakes don't feel like 'all off' or 'all on'. Stock brakes seem 'a little' too sensitive, and also lock up the front wheels without much effort.
3.) Pads are effective cold.
3.) Noise.
4.) Dust.
5.) Price is of little or no importance.

Come'on guys... Help a brother out...

Re: Help me select the best \'Street\' brake pad for my GTS

Your going to hear a lot of EBC suggestions for brake dust reasons. I've never used them because they don't seem to be ideal for track use which is what I use my car for.

Brakeman 3 pads are good for both. OEM pads are awesome (my preference for street and track) but of course they are expensive from Dodge. I buy my OEM pads used from some of the companies that sell brake upgrade systems and have them from customer take-offs.

I hope your not doing anything close to 180 on the street. That's plain stupid - even on a closed road not having EMS in the event of a failure is a high risk activity in my humble opinion.

Noise won't be an issue with any of the pads I know of.

Thanks

P.S. - Chuck, FYI - Bill Pemb. also highly recommends the Brakeman 3. Your in good company....

Re: Help me select the best \'Street\' brake pad for my GTS

I have run Brakeman 3 on the track, they work well. I found on the street after a few hundred miles they get hard and squeal. They also create some of the most dirty wheels I've had yet.
Porter field R4's are also good for track events. However
they are also dirty for every day street driving.
So, performance they are good. Every day driving I would, and do use EBC green. They are fair performance wise and they do run fairly clean.
I'm sure there are other choices.
Try them all!

Re: Help me select the best \'Street\' brake pad for my GTS

I just installed EBC Greens yesterday. I must say that they are a lot different from stock brakes. They definitely don't bite as hard. This surprised me, as I know that it supposedly has a higher coefficient of friction.

With that being said, I DEFINITELY think they are easier to modulate. Forget modulation with stock pads... the only way you could tell you were about to lock the wheels up is the cloud of smoke behind you :)

I've only driven on the pads for about 20 miles (lots of braking, though), and I can't believe that they don't squeal at ALL. As for brake dust, it is nonexistent so far. By 20 miles with stock pads, I would have black wheels.

By the end of my drive, I was able to easily lock up the front wheels on purpose (I just had to stand on them harder). So, it definitely has the ability to lock your wheels up.

Bottom line... the gain in modulation is a far better advantage over the "initial bite" of the stock pads. I'm sure it'll take getting used to, and after the pads are bedded in, I'm sure that the EBC Greens will be my preferred pad for street driving. I will post impressions of the Green after the Auto-X this weekend.
