Help!!! need some opinions on the viper for my next car

You can't afford this car at this stage in your life...and here is why.

1) You need a co-signer...enough said.
2) Insurance is based upon your driving record & your CREDIT HISTORY...you will pay a crap load of money just for insurance...and more so if this is a daily driver, left outside, and the list goes on.
3) Unless it is garaged, it will get broken into or damaged...count on it.

Just drove my friends lambo its stick i was totally fine in it. I know it has the hp but are the driving experiences totally different? Btw smile from ear to ear that car was amazing. One downfall it cant play burnt cd's lol weird but whatever its now the best car i have driven.

That is ONE gorgeous Bull~!!! Not having driven a Lambo myself, I'd still say the driving experience is going to be totally different. Remember, the VIPER has NO so-called 'nanny' controls (no tc, no esc), it's YOU who controls the car. You need to drive one BEFORE making any decisions, you must see how these differ than any other car you've EVER driven before. This is VERY SERIOUS: this car HAS the potential to come ass-end around VERY quickly when you step on throttle. One MUST know how to drive it. Seriously. Take some lessons in one...have a fellow Viper Owner take you along...rent one with someone who can drive STICK EX-cellently. This is THE most enjoyable car out there, but one MUST know how to drive it.

I like Lambos also. But, the Murci is a big heavy GT car that is hard to see out of in comparison to the viper. The Viper is more of a true sports car that I think you will enjoy driving more than a Murci. I like the LP560 Gallardo better in a Lambo. I have driven both the stick and F1 trans cars and the F1 is the best. Anyway, drive the Viper and see what you think. Ken

But I'll be first to post BS on the girlfriend thing. The fact that you focus on this right off the bat is a poser move for sure. Those pics are of a cute-enough girl in a uniform, but she's sitting on a living room floor with mini-blinds in the background. Hardly professional photography. And they are about an inch in size so no one can call you on it. I am sure my GF would do that much posing and more if I asked her. So post something offical if she is/was an NBA cheerleader. Otherwise leave her out of the discussions of your driving inadequacy. She just does not justify you having a Viper and I don't see any other reason you'd bring her up.

I think you overestimate FSU's entry and graduation requirements

Bought mine at 25. Was a great car, fun to drive. Totaled it right before I turned 26. It definitely is not a normal car as far as point straight and go. The car can get the best of you.

Learned valuable lesson from that experience. Bought 2nd one at 26. Still kicking, even harder with the supercharger.

The viper was my dream car. I would definitely take a higher end car such as a Ferrari, but only to sell and buy another viper. The car is just a raw beautiful beast.

Likes: Gen 2 body style, exclusivity, sound, attention, performance, aftermarket support, simplicity

Dislikes: side sills were hot till I removed cats but after that was good, can be hard to get out of sometimes but I am 27 going on 50 so I feel old everyday, aftermarket support (too many damn mods and I want most of them, makes me impulse buy)

All I can tell you is buy it. Buy it as a second car, not a daily. Go get a 15k bmw for a daily, or even a 10k bmw and call it good.

1. Do look at the total costs of owning a Viper before you buy.

2. If you want to see what the car does when enthusiastically applying the gas, do it in a large open parking area with nothing to hit. You may experience how viciously the rear can come around despite your efforts to correct it. If you buy a Viper, I highly recommend putting in a Quaiffe rear end for much greater controllability.

3. Drive the car moderately when weather is cold (below 60) and when tires are cold (anytime).

4. You want something that has lots of power and then some? You may get used to it and always want more.

regardless of the pics and whatever I'm going to assume you're serious about a Viper and add my 2-cents on the car itself.
I bought my first Viper at 27 as the achievement of a 10-year dream and I couldn't be happier! If you've really been into it for that long then you owe it to yourself to at least test a Viper for a weekend and see if you love driving it as much as thinking about driving it... for me it was totally worth it!

The reality check however - just my opinion of course - the learning curve with a Viper will detract from the "fun" for you bigtime if you're looking at it as a daily driver. Some VCA members do use Vipers for daily drivers and I know you have better weather in Florida than we have here in NYC, but weather is not the only consideration. YOU CAN'T DRIVE A VIPER "CASUALLY" - it's just not that kind of car! If you're looking for something to push it with some of the time and relax/drive like any other car some of the time then this is not the ride for you. It is totally feasible to drive 'conservatively' with a Viper, but even that requires 100% of your attention. If you're not a little scared by what it is capable of then you're not doing it right! Driving a car with this kind of power, manual shift, and no electronic safety-net is a big responsibility for you to yourself, to other drivers, and to the car itself. If you think you'd be comfortable with that 7 days a week, then GO FOR IT!

for what it's worth - mine is a 2006 convertible. The seats are comfortable, even for long trips (300 miles+). The heat inside the car gets oppressive when you're driving on a really hot day, like over 90 degrees. The convertible top is AWESOME - it may be manual, but it's quick, lightweight, and doesn't leak at all in rain.

Oh yeah, and even the stock 8.3L V-10 will slam you back in the seat like no Benz you've ever driven

I don't think age determines how good a driver is. If it was, Formula 1 and NASCAR would be populated solely with guys as old as I am. And learning to drive a manual well simply isn't rocket science. I taught myself on a Ford Van with a three on the column. The Viper is actually pretty easy to drive easy. Its forgiving if you're not a smooth shifter, more so than other manuals I drive.

However the Viper isn't like other cars, it is extremely powerful and if driven poorly it will bite. But with a decent respect for the car and providing subtle inputs it is easy to drive in my opinion. I would let my son or daughter drive it with some words of caution first.

The various comments about cold tires though cannot be ignored. This is the most significant mistake I think that drivers can make. Cold tires on a Viper make it seem like your driving on ice. I've competed in the Cannonball One Lap for ten years and two years ago Ralph Gillis, Chris Winkler, Erich Heuschle, and other SRT folks competed as well. Erich is a vehicle dynamics engineer who worked on the Viper suspension and tire package. Erich told me that they don't let the SRT engineers drive the Vipers when its cold because they keep wrecking them. Says something about cold tires. Not really sure why cold tires and Vipers don't mix. I've had other cars with a lot of torque and power but the Viper seems unique in its dislike of cold tires. Heck my daily driver is a 500 HP Saleen which I drive in any weather. I even have snow tires for the winter.

Ignore the hate, and go with your gut. Like someone said, driving this car is not rocket science. I am not an owner yet, but have had some powerful beasts in my time. I agree with most, probably not a great daily driver.
However, if this is what you want, and you can afford it, go for it.

A GTS (or a coupe) is a great daily driver. vert. means removable top and a full trunk if no top. Not convenient for travel.

I use my GTS as a daily driver and it's faster than 10.5@139mph car, but not in winter. It also gets 20mpg/us.

I drive a 91 Stealth R/T TT wih AWD, AWS, 360-500hp and 30mpg. It's equipped with ice radials of course. It has a backseat and cost me a bit over $11K. Insurance is 1/3 the cost of the Viper (BS Government Insurance).
I like my modified Stealth nearly as much as a stock Viper. If you "feel the need for speed" then the Viper is perfect for you. Built super strong and with 500 cubic inches it modified into the BADDEST MF on the roads!!!

This is quite an interesting thread. It's all quite funny actually. What's most impressive is the time some members have taken with exceptional advice! Several posts were precisely on target.

The problem you've encountered Mr. Gold (and you already taken some account it this) is how you presented yourself in your initial posts. Most have ignored your prominent adolescent tendencies in addressing your concerns, but it surely doesn't help your case. Everything about your VCA persona (all self created mind you) suggests that you are the quintessential "accident in waiting" Viper seeker.

Just as a suggestion, why not presume that we've all already "been there, done that" when you post? The false hubris puts you in SUCH a poor light. Yet, despite those typical "Jersey Shore" posting pitfalls, you are receiving a great many serious and considered responses.

As far as my opinion, I believe you should fear your attitude more than interior cabin heat. If you can set that aside, Viper ownership will be nothing but a "charm".

i bought my first Viper back in 2001, could bought a lambo or a Ferrari back then but nothing stopped me from buying the Viper.

thats how bad i wanted the Viper and with this amazing Viper community how can i be wrong ?
