Hello
97 GTS . 8K MILES

Car sat for a few months and battery tender somehow became unplugged and battery drained to 0
Hooked tender back up but battery never became fully charged so i replaced the battery ( 6 YEARS OLD)
Car now cranks but wont start
I moved the ASD relay with another relay and still wont turn over
I checked fuel pump fuse in back .. still good
I went and got a new fuel pump relay .. still wont turn over and the pump isnt cycling ( never cycled prior either)
Checked fuel at the rail and nothing comes out.
Gauge reads 0 at cranking
Popped the cover off the Fuel pump and checked power to the fuel pump.. Power is very dull on the test light with key in the ON positon
The weird issue is that the FOB unlocks the car. The alarm doesnt seem to arm even though it chirps.

If i leave the key in the ignition in the ON position and get out and shut the door I cant get back in. the car locks itself or the power locks arent working
Also if the key is in the ON position the alarm button stays solid red.

Looking for a little advise on anything im missing. Car was fine before battery died... Car is all original with no wiring mods

Seems to me the alarm may be faulty and not allowing the car to start if that makes sense or the PCM???

Thanks in Advance

The alarm cuts the injectors off.

The fuel pump only runs a few seconds when you put it on the run position then cuts off.

Pull the fuel pump relay in the back and jumper the terminals (give me a sec) and you will hear the pump run.

Jumper pin 1 to 5 on the fuse/relay block. That corresponds to pin 30 and 87 on the relay. The pump will run.

But check voltage on pin 1 first. Should be 12V constant.

12 v constant at 87 terminal.. jumped it out( like you said) and have fuel at the rail now with pump running full time

Still a crank and no start situation... wont turn over

Next step is check the for 12V on pin 4 of the fuse/relay block. That should be pin 86 on the relay. 12V constant too.

Pin 3 or pin 85 on relay is the ground that goes to the PCM. The PCM controls the ground of the relay but you got the ASD relay feeding 12V signal to the PCM too.

Don't worry about cranking it now. Just verify the voltages and grounds. So we can isolated the issue circuit

Put key to run position you should now have juice at pin 4/ relay 86. Sorry missed that step.

Check fuse 10. Check it for 12V if you got no juice with key in run.

Then pull it out.

One side is 12V the other side goes to pin 4 / relay 86.

If you got 12V on one side then Check the continuity from the non 12V to pin 4/relay 86.

So with key in run position and all the fuses in,
Pin 4/relay 86 should have 12V juice. If not check fuse 10 as above.

Sorry on my phone and hard to step person through troubleshooting on messages.

No. where the ASD relay is that's the PDC (power distribution center).

The fuse block should be the one under the dash.

The fuse/relay block is the one in the back.

Morning Goggles

With the key on 86 still has no power.. I checked fuse 10 and it has power(key on)
I removed 10 and 1 side is 12v(key on)

I ran a continuity test from non 12v on fuse 10 to 86 pin

I do NOT have continuity

Put the fuse back in and check 12V key on at the ASD relay pin 16 of the PDC or pin 86 of the relay.

And key on means in the RUN position or position just before you crank the car for anyone else reading this thread.

Key on..

16 has 12v on ASD relay
38 also hot(fyi) on same relay

In the back relay 86 is NOT 12v
85 and 87 are now 12v

Hold on.

16 and 38 on ASD are good.

On the back fuel pump relay 85 is 12V? 85 is ground and goes to PCM through pin 3 of the fuse/relay block.

So when you turn the key to the off position, then to run are you hearing the fuel pump prime for approx 2secs?

I think you got the rear relay terminals mixed up. 30 and 86 should be 12V key on. 87 and 87A on relay are the switch pins. 30 is the common. That is standard relay configuration

I have both a 97 Service manual and a PCM. I can send both to try to see if that is the issue. Shoot me a PM with your address
