I need to ask the viper community for help. I have tried everything else before coming here to get my problem corrected with Fredrick Dodge, a local dealer, . I purchased a 2000 rt/10 from them, which they said had a 600hp to 700hp motor in it. They also claimed to have had certain mods done to the car to get this horse power. Well the car was tested on a dyno and it was no where near the horsepower. The car has also has been taken apart and found that none of the internal mods where made. When the dealer was asked about this they changed their story and now its my word against theirs. What I would like to get help with is finding the advertisement for the car that was put on the net. I know there was at least one add in the auto trader that stated the horsepower of this car. I was also told by the dealer before I purchased the car it was listed at several other places. So if anyone out there has any idea of where I can look for this add, please let me know.
Thanks

Not sure about the laws in Ohio, but in most states, when it comes to used vehicles, it's buyer beware. Unless you have it in writing somewhere, or find that advertisement stating the car had 600+hp. In Nevada, the laws are very pro-business. I've been in the car business here for almost 10 years, and I've seen people complain, call the BBB, and the DMV, but unless it is a breach of the law, there's not much they can do.
Good luck finding the ad, that will give you some ammunition.

Craig 201 the car had a cold run of 437hprw/477tqwr. This is just about right for the headers and other parts it does have. The add was first run about this time last year. I have the web sites for both places but what I am looking for is the archives for the adds. There some where I just can not find them.

Sam 01 Your right it is that way here in Ohio. When this first started I thought Fredrick dodge was a honest dealer, but when I tried to talk to them about it they changed their story real fast. So I now have to find the add. I know there were two. One in autotrader had the horsepower in the description and the other had a picture of the car with 600 HP on the windshield. I would like to find the autotrader add for it list the vin# in the add.

Thanks

Curious, How much did you pay ? Did you pay more for the mods/horsepower than a stock 2000 would cost. What is the dealers new story ?

1Tony1 I paid a bout $10,000 more for it than I would have if it did not have the mods. My choices were between this car and a new 2001 rt/10. As far as the dealer is concerned they started saying things like the cats were causing the problem to the dyno was wrong. There have been two different tuners that have looked at the car now and they both have said the motor is basically stock. The second tuner has taken the car apart and found that it is stock. for now HEE!! HEE!!

I know that this is not the response that you want to hear but....You do not have a leg to stand on if you did not sign something at closing that you are purchasing a "Moded Viper w/ 600 Hp". Even if you find the add the dealer can claim that the add was wrong and you were told before you bought the car. Your word against their's and they have more money than you to fight you in court.(Most likely) This sux but this is just the way it is. For future reference you should always make a seller put any and all claims in writing. I would be willing to bet that you even signed a disclosure stating that everything sold is in writing and no verbal promises will be honored. It will be worded sweeter than this but means the same thing. Not trying to rain on your parade but just telling it the way that it is. Sorry Dealer for doing this but that is business. You got hornswaggled! Just take your whipping and move on down the road. It will be very hard for you to get anything out of it. Just rest easy knowing those guys will rot in Hell! Have a great evening!

It might be worth speaking with an attorney letting him know you want to go to small claims court on your own. Perhaps a nicely worded letter from the atty to autotrader can get the original ad.

Then you could use that in small claims court hopefully the max in your state is at least 5K and if you lose you are only out a couple hundred for the atty visit and court filing fees.

Have your lawyer send them a lawyer letter offering arbitration to settle out of court.

If they don't go for that, take it to small claims court yourself.

I think you will have lots of trouble trying to prove that the engine is or is not stock and what they knew and what they said.
What exactly was their claim? Just the horsepower or did they spell out what was done to the engine?

Just try to get whatever deal you can without spending any more money.

If you go to big boys court, the only winner will be the lawyers & you will be out an additional 10-20K.

Take out an ad in the local paper stating that Fredrick Dodge RIPPED YOU OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!Then go back and tell the owner that you will never let this issue die unless they make it right!

Find an EX employee of the dealership. This guy will be GLAD to tell the real story as a witness to what you were told. How do I know there is someone out there who left the stealership shortly after you bought the car? ITS A USED CAR DEALER! They have turnover from hell. Let the jerks tell their lies, then bring in the surprize witness.

Here's what to do. 1) get M-16; 2) Go to dealership at 2 AM; 3) Spray 100 armor piercing rounds into the dealer's new cars; 4) Leave quickly. :headbang: :headbang:

Thanks all for the info. I have an attorney and he has sent a letter to the Fredrick Dodge and the talked. When they found out that it was my word to theirs everything stopped. The way Ohio law is if I can find the add(s), I can get them for false advertising. The best add would be the autotrader add because it has the vin# in it. I was just hopeing that someone here may have some info on finding the adds, or know something about the car.

The story on the car is as follows:

head and vale work --- not done.
Modified cam ---- Stock
headers ------- Yes
70 mm th/bodies ---Yes
Vec1 ------- Yes, but wrong setup info
There is also a few other thing but the above are the bigges. The car is now at Woodhouse having some warrenty work done and a few things more. They are the one that have taken the car apart and

If this thread end with no results, then its the end of it. As far as the car is concerned I am moving on with it. It should have the horsepower I expected or more when its done

Sorry Hit the wromg button.

As I was saying Woodhouse has looked into the motor and found it was stock. They have been very help full and I thank them a lot for the help. If the car was done I would see everyone in Florida. Well maybe next time.

Thanks again

I would say have your lawyer call autotrader. Using all of his big educated words, he might get more from them then the average Joe.
