I just couldn't get over the 3.8 flat six, or the sound for that matter. I had a Tubi exhaust added and the car "chipped" as they described to me at the Porsche dealership. 10K later, It didn't seem to add anything exciting to the over all experience of the car. I drove the car everyday for 30 days and then sold it because the new ones were coming out and I didn't want to get killed on it. It just felt like a very nice VW to me. I don't want to piss off any Porsche people, it was a very nice car. It just didn't do it for me. I guess I'm kind of a ******* when it comes to my cars, I like them powerful, raw and loud. JD

Agree - I hate the sound of any 6 - flat boxer, inline, V - they all sound terrible. People complain about the V10, but it is certainly better than a 6!

I look at from the point of view of which vehicle would protect them more if they were rear ended or T boned by a pickup or a large SUV or large car. The pickup would probably go over the Porsche and crush it killing or severly injuring all inside it. So might the large SUV or the large car. We all know what would happen in a T bone accident. The driver would likely not survive. The SRT8 Jeep would fare much better.

Where I live, I see Porsche Panamericas running around all over the place with mothers and kids. I always wonder whether the parents have given any thought to the safety scenario. Particularly since many around here run red lights and T bone accidents and other bad types are failry common.

Well we have a 7 passenger SUV. So for a 'fun' car, the 911 works because of 4wd (a little safer) and 4 seats (they are small kids, it would work). A 2 seater for her is impractical - there is almost always at least 1 kid being carted around, and the front seat is not ideal. Its a bonus to be able to carry 2.

The new 911 is NOT bloated in my opinion. In fact, it has never been so sleak. They did a great job on the redesign. But yes, there are many out there if that bothers you.

I think the 911 is a super hi quality car, but when it comes to turning on a track (particularly the Turbo), comparing to the Viper is just not a fair task for it. No need to require the TA, would be fine with the GTS or base SRT. Seriously, it did not handle the new Z28 and you believe it has a chance with a Viper?

We shall see in real life..... Yes, that new Z28 is insane,I am surprised the TS even ran as close as it did to it on the track...Chev has their act together with that car and the new Z07 is going dominate ever thing with that amount of HP and a DCT....

Bottom line,a lot of good stuff out their to play with...

I am a Viper guy through and through, but there is a reason the 911 is a benchmark for many auto makers. There are things the Viper does better, but the Porsche has the upper hand on a few things too. I personally wouldn't take a 911 over a Viper, but it is important to note that is not the norm.

Dissagree,
& think that atleast 75% of Viper owners would keep their snake over a 911 of comparable year and/or price.

I own Viper because I love Viper. If I loved porsche then I would buy one.
I do think they are a fabulous car and like how active the PCA is with trackdays.

but when I show up at a PCA trackday all eyes are on my GTS

Do you even have a viper? If so, go ahead and trade it. I wouldn't trade mine for a Porsche; a degree of exclusivity should be "standard" on performance cars that are priced north of $100K.

Hi Peter & Steve - If you all are looking for well cared for vipers please let me know. Vipers are not the only car.
Vipers are no longer exclusive either. Sure you don't see them but does that make it exclusive?
I'm ready for a change.
Peter & Steve you may choose from the following:

1996 GTS - Original Owner
1998 GTS R -
2003 Comp Coupe # 32
2006 VOI #9
2008 ACR ********
2005 Fordgt (40)
Does owning a 1995 RT/10 Count ?

If you want to throw down we can do it.

Don't disagree with you statement at all. I wasn't referring to Viper owners though about preference for a 911. I was referring to the general public. Keep in mind, there are droves of brainwashed people that feel only European cars have any merit.

Well, first of all, almost every car guy knows the Heritage that Porsche has at Motorsports and at building quality.
So is not coincidence that so many people drives a Porsche.
They are fantastic cars, made for the job, allmost flawless in mechanical terms. IMO they are not very good looking, except for the Carrera GT and other limited editions.
Viper always has been a different story. Many times criticized by their building qualities, etc.
But, it has a philosofy that not many people are able to understand. And the looking expresses everything that is in it. Unfortunatly, like no many people understands it, theyr are not many people buying it :(. IMO, Viper is the only car that with just look at it, i know is the only car that i will spend the rest of my car with it.
Not every people will choose a car that is really hard to drive, and doesn't carry any "helps" till 2013 with the new SRT.
So, it's not surprise that you will see a whole lot of Porsches.

Looking forward to be a new owner soon :D
Cheers guys!

BTW: sorry for my gramar, i'm from Chile lol

I am confused, what do you mean throw down, I was the Golden gloves Heavy Weight Champion 3 years in a row, do you mean you want to go at it, if so, I would love to. If your bragging who has the most cars and Vipers, you win hands down. Please clarify.:usa:

Golden Gloves Heavy Weight Champion 3 years in a row? Nice to see you BRAG also. Who are you & who cares except maybe your family, (unless your sleeping with your Viper ) they can be known as
a Mistress. Since your so passionate about Vipers i just figured maybe you & Peter could maybe ask your wives if you could purchase another Viper to add to your Stables. Asking me to go at it? Just what are you implying? Enjoy your Vipers as anyone should.

I think Frank is the typical fat blow hard that writes alot of checks with his big mouth that his body can not cash. May be I spend to much time in the gym and misinterpret what he meant by he wants to throw down, if that means sell me a new car I took it wrong, but I do not think so. If so I apologize for wanting to punch his face. And I do not have to ask my wife if I want to buy a used car from someone, I all ready know her answer, NO.:D

We will see if your beloved Gen 5 is a collector before any of mine. I'm not interested in a Gen 5 is that ok with you?
As far as a bunch of old cars i'd bet you'd give your left nut for one or maybe 2 of them. What happens to old cars? Don't
they go up in Value? So Peter by your last remark you are either into men (yes Homosexual), Trans Gender, Cross Dresser, I'm sure that your the kind of guy that has plenty of lip gloss around your lips, and different colors.

now Steve...You you blow also? is that what your saying? or are you quoting a movie ? Maybe we both spend time in the gym, try to work on cardio, not the muscle head you seem to be. Why does everything come down to fighting? an apology for wanting to punch my face.
You can take that apology & shove it up your. I'll be around, i don't run.

Today i did see Vipers, all on a car lot. No Porsches...130 Miles Covered

Because that would be boring. This gen5 forum should be renamed to "Big Brother: the Gen5 Edition", or "Kardashians of the Gen5: but no Kardashians", or "Housewives of the Gen5", or ... fill in the drama.

The Turbo S and the Viper are very different cars. The Turbo S is basically a sports-GT car hybrid. It's heavy, it's very luxurious, it's very practical, and in straight lines, it's an absolute spaceship. I don't think there's another DOT legal factory stock car that can touch it for under $800,000 in a straight line. Mags are getting 2.6 second 0-60 times repeatable on street tires and loose pavement. However, it's definitely less of a driver's car, and it doesn't look anywhere near as good. Even in an area like where I live, where 911 Turbos are nearly as rare as Vipers, park them next to each other, the Porsche will be ignored.

I see the 911 Turbo in the same role as the Corvette, but for someone much much richer-If you need a fast, good looking, reasonably practical sports car, and for whatever reason don't feel like the Viper is versatile enough (and living in a snowy area would be a great reason for this), bingo, you've got your DD.

I don't think I'd take one over the Viper though (just like I didn't take a 2007 911 Turbo over my ACR); the Viper is exciting even when it's sitting still. The Porsche has to be beating on its clutch to get your heart racing in the same way.
