I am thinking about installing hi flow cats this Spring on my 96 GTS. I have heard that hi-flow cats and taking the cats out completely results in a loss of low end torque, but that it more than makes up for it in better higher end torque. With the loss of low end torque, would 0-60 mph and 0-60 foot times be slower? Or because I would reach 60 mph when I get into the high RPM's and the torque at that range would be higher than with stock cats will the 0-60mph times be the same or a little better? Do you think I can pick up maybe a .1 in my 1/4 mile time with hi-flow cats?

I picked up 10 on horsepower and 9 on torque. My power band picks up 500RPMS earlier than when I had cats. My 00 ACR with no rear muffler, no cats and H-pipe did 425rwh. 471rwt. SAE corrected with back to back dynos. With your mods you should have a lot more power that what you are putting out. Do you still have stock cats???? If so, you are choking your cars potential.

Tony, yes I still have the stock cats and that's why I am thinking of putting in hi flow cats in the next month. I was pretty disappointed in my dyno results too. One problem I think was that the shop that dynoed it used only a small window fan and had my hood closed during the dyno runs. Also, I found out just before I put my Viper in storage this year that my headers are leaking and have fried my O2 sensors because of the heat. Also, the front O2 sensors were not put in the right location. I am having all of that corrected in the next month along with installing the hi flow cats. Do you think the leaking headers and fried O2 sensors are what is causing my power loss? With my mods I expected a bit more HP and torque also. The car is one of the first 50 GTS's made in 1996, so maybe they didn't quite have everything right on the first few they made too, I don't know. Having worked in the auto industry for the last 8 years myself, I know that sometimes bugs get worked out in the first few weeks of production of a new vehicle and that's why I am afraid my car just may not have as much power as other GTS's. But, I hope my repair to the headers and O2 sensors along with the hi flow cats pick me up some power this Spring.

P.S. Does anyone else out there on this board have one of the first 50 or so GTS's ever made in 1996? I guess they went mostly to Chrysler execs and VCA Presidents from what I am told. I am curious what those cars are dynoing at.

The 96 models have had the best dyno#'s of any GTS. You are definitely losing power from exhaust leaks and bad 02's. Once you get that solved you should be putting down closer to 444-455Hp and 480-490TQ. I think you will be amazed once you get it in tune.

Sean,

My vin ends with 0490, so I am probably not one of the first 50, but my numbers and mods are below. Basically similar numbers, but I don't have headers. You should be pulling stronger.

You should get those O2 sensors replaced when you get the headers fixed. You're probably running rich. Especially if you saw a lot of fuel coming from the exhaust while you were on the dyno. I'm just guessing but they're probably the original O2 sensors that came with the car 7 years ago.

Michael, I just need to try and keep up with you so I have got to get this stuff fixed this Spring. Yes, the O2 sensors are original and 6 years old almost now. Also, I gotta get that supercharger kit so I can leave you in the dust. You will have to point your camera toward the front of the car from now on when we drag race so you can get a good look at my car on film.

If you need help installing anything let me know. If I help out I won't mind getting spanked as much.

ps (Don't forget the dynosheets I need.)
