So I was just reading a post regarding the high mileage on Vipers and was wondering, do you guys have any pet peeves with high mileage on the car? Any one thing bother you? I would have to say, that the only bother that I have had, was rock chips but other than that I am in love. I know in the SRT's mine would definitly be seat wear but that is about it. Let me know what you guys think.

i think we all have the rock cip problem even with very low miles cars. no problems here with 43k miles. it just keeps running better and faster with its old age :headbang:

chips and seat wear can be fixed... what bothers me is people thinking its somewhat less of a viper because its been driven. Its all in the care of the car..

Does anyone really think alittle less than 6k miles a year is high? my GTS is going on 10 years old and has 55k on her.. When you tell people how many miles it has they almost always gasp.

Exactly. If I see a 20,000 mile car that looks just as good as a 5,000 mile car, I will definitly give the 20,000 car lots of thought, and probably take it.

6K a year is nothing but to most buyers, they look at the overall mileage as being high but when you really think about it, it is nothing. Great driving. I am trying to catch up!!!! 36,012 and counting!!!

I've got 54K kilos, a little over 33K miles on mine. Rocks chips and seat wear, but if the bra is on and I'm driving, no one knows about either. :)

Only other peave is that it has more time on the clock than my bro's GTS. I'd have to park it for a couple of years before he catches up. :p

I agree with the pet peeve of people gasping at high mileage being considered at very small numbers. With the motor in the Viper, it's probably one that can take really high mileage and not be effected much. I am actually quite opposite in that I think low mileage is not exactly the best because garage queens don't get a good enough work-out and the engine is more prone to negative build-up.

I have 35K on a 2001 RT/10 and think it's about right for a summer only car. It is a daily driver for me.

I think of mileage relative to the car - Is 50K on a 10 year old Viper high. Yes, because it's the exception. Is 50K high on a 1996 Corvette - Nope, it would be a selling point then because it's much lower than normal.

I do have a bias for low mileage cars, and that sometimes limits my enjoyment of them. Now that I've admitted I have a problem, maybe I can fix it.

"Hi, my name is Mike and I am afraid of high mileage cars." (All), "Hi Mike, welcome!"

Only complaint I have is the parking brake button rattles at times. Rather annoying. Other then that, I love it. :)

Funny, but I've got the same problem. Took me a long time to find where the noise was coming from. Advice from the Wizard...stuff a bit of cotton inside and it'll disappear.

Other than that, the high mileage is a killer on treadware! LOL

Only broken part so far is a clutch slave cylinder at 42,000 miles. No big deal. Other than that the R/T 10 hardtop on makes a little noise over bumps every so often. Also no biggie. Besides that, car has been flawless and very reliable. Biggest peave is that I still get depressed every time I have to get out of it and put it away.

Yeah mine used to do the same thing. Can not remember what I had done to fix it. Chuck took care of it.

Yeah the hardtop can be a bit annoying but as of now I would not know since the latch broke. Now it is ******* all the way until I can sit down and try to fix the latches.

MY pet peeve are the HATERS... Why so many haters on the road?
Wierd?
Perhaps its where you live? I can't recall encountering anyone that acted like they hated the car (or me for having it), so I'm a bit puzzled by this comment and the thread on that subject.

As far as peeves, none, really. It runs, nothing major's broken so far on either Viper I've owned outside of warranty - although Gen I's should have been outfitted with a power-steering cooler from the factory, which they addressed in the Gen II, etc. In fact, most any issue I had with my high mileage Gen I Viper look to have been addressed with the Gen II.

A pet peeve would be the fact that exceeding a few thousand miles per year is high mileage on a race designed engine. If I could run year round, there would be over 100,000 miles on our car right now. Winters here have kept it to 55K+ miles so far. Tomorrow will be the 6 year anniversary of our CAAP pick up. The 3 other vehicles we have are all well over 100,000 miles.......and one of them is daily driven in the summer, tracked, and almost 17 years old (149K miles). Absolutely no major problems with any of them to date! High mileage doesn't mean much any more for a well-maintained vehicle. Except for an oil cooler line failure a couple years ago (warranty), our Viper has had zero mechanical problems.

That being said------there is one large advantage for those of us who actually drive our cars............If for some reason the car ever does wear out...or break in a big way--------- there will no shortage of low mileage garage queens to choose from for another ride. So I say to all who prefer to keep the miles off their cars..... .. Keep up the good work! ;) Do your part to perpetutate the myth that Vipers which see more than a few thousand miles a year are less desirable! ---save your cars for the people who think the Viper was made for driving and having fun in... instead of washing, waxing, showing, and parking.

I had a 2000GTS I bought with 21,000 miles. I sold it in 1.5 years with 36,000 miles. I just bought a 2002GTS with 28,000 miles which is at Heffner getting the Novi treatment. I think it's all about how you take care of it. I've seen cars with 5,000 miles with more flaws than cars with 30,000 miles. I buy my cars because I love to drive them, not brag about them sitting in my garage. Do I prefer a lower mileage car typically when I buy one, sure, but it isn't a deal breaker. Lets face it, a car is made to be driven!

I bought a 95 RT/10 at 11K miles, it crashed & died at 29K miles
= 18K miles in 21 months (857/month)

I bought a 95 RT/10 (514 stroker Venom 600) at 11K miles, sold it at 32K miles
= 21K miles in 21 months (1105 miles/month)

I bought the rebuilt 95 RT/10 (see above) at 41K miles, sold it at 53K miles
= 12K miles in 10 months (1000 miles/month)

I bought a 99 GTS at 36K miles, sold it at 52K miles
= 16K miles in 27 months (592 miles/month)

I drove a bud's '00 ACR from 4K miles to 12K miles
= 8K miles in 24 months (333 miles/month)

I bought a '04 SRT-10 at 1 mile, now has 7500 miles
= 7500 miles in 28 months (267 miles/month...SRT-10s aren't as much fun?)

I bought a '00 ACR at 12K miles, now has 31K miles.
= 19K miles in 24 months (791 miles/month)

So, I've driven 101,500+ Viper miles in the past 9 yrs/2 months. I had an oil cooler puncture in my '00 ACR two years ago, and a diff failure in the '04 SRT-10 at 3K miles. No other problems of note, and these babies have been DRIVEN...rather hard. Including road course track time in three of 'em, and a bit of drag race track time in all of 'em.

Only rental cars are faster and more trouble-free.

Anyone who is concerned about mileage reducing the value of their Viper doesn't make enough money and shouldn't own one.

It's a car. Drive it all you want.
If the devaluation cost of the miles is a concern, better get a cheaper car.

Way to go George! We drive ours the same way. Our average mileage to date, during our 6 month driving season, is 1540 miles per month.
