In reading the post I understand these tires almost eliminate the wheel hop. How streetable are they? How many miles can you get with them? thanks

These are Hoosiers dedicated autocross tires that are I believe R-compound tires. I would be wary of using them in the rain. Another issue with sticky track and autocross tires is that they pick up (and therefore kick up) every grain and particle of dirt on the road.

I would contact Luke Pavlick at Tirerack about this. Good luck.

PS2 tires are the ones you want.
They are awesome street tires.

If they are not sticky enough for you, the new Sport Cups would be your next choice.

The A6 is a very specialized tire.

Jsparks-unable to get on and respond to your question on another post.

This tire would not be for every one. As with all tires their are plus & minus -Ive tried different tires on my Viper but the A6, as I mentioned, transformed my Viper. One has to use them on the street to understand what they do for the Viper.

I mentioned the plus in another post.

On the minus side

-They are not very good in the rain-but I have driven in the rain frequently and was surprised-as long as I was careful everything was fine.
-Since the tire has a very soft compound it will, as mentioned in the above post, really pick up pebbles etc ,and this could sand blast under the rear fenders. I solved the problem by putting on 3m in certain areas. Even with regular tires I was having a little problem with this.
-Mileage is not good-I drive fairly aggressive and it looks like around 6000 miles at the most. If you are really aggressive driver or track the car even less maybe 4000 miles.
-If you drive the Viper on very long trips you would not want this tire. I will put between 10-12 thousand a year on my Viper mostly around this area sprinkled with some short trips.

As far as I am concern with my set up the plus out weighs the minus. I have not had one problem with the tires and I am on my second set.

I wish you could drive my Viper with these tires. I have made quite a few believers in my area. They can't get over how the tires stick and how the Viper performs with the A6. I took on 750 crank hp Supra a few weeks ago and ran off and left him- all he was doing was spinning tires. Been a much better race if he had the right tires.

I run with 26 lbs -with very little warm up their is no fishtailing-no wheel hop-just a touch of spinning in first and the tire grabs and sticks. Believe me they warm up very quick. With run flats and even the 19" Pirelli's, when I went to wot in second gear most of the time I had to hold on for dear life.

As mentioned before I have the DLM SC with 3.55 gears and light fly wheel. I am hooked on the A6. Thought about going with the R6 but with with my set up and the harder compound the tires would not stick as good especially in lst gear.

Jsparks the only way your going to know how they perform is get you a pair. I was at one time in your position and I just had to bite the bullet and try the A6. Talk to Luke.

I really appreciate you taking time to respond to my question. The spinning and wheel hop has just driven me crazy! With the new paxton in I am def. going to want to hook up. I am going to pick up a set of A6 and see for myself. Thanks again

BTW - Was the swap to the .355's worth the time?

I drive the hell out my car but usually not in the rain. If the A6's are too bad; I will stick them on another set of rims for the track and pick up some ps2's

Don't think you will be sorry. By the way the A6 does not need heat cycle I think the R6 does. I would warm them up good before the first try ,it is almost like a break in period for a few miles. On short trips I put about 28-29 lbs and around town 26lbs-if i get really serious 24-25lbs.;)

Be sure you are in proper alignment and Keep a close watch on the tires. I was not in proper alignment when I first got the tires and they started wearing to much on the inside. You don't have a lot of tread so keep checking the tires.

Ill share this with you -In your present set up - what happens when your on the move at lower speeds and go to a strong WOT in 2nd gear with your SC. With these tires believe me its amazing I can't make the tires spin or fishtail in second gear ,with the amount of hp in the Viper ,no matter how heavy on the pedal (I hope you will experience the same).

Remember this-in colder weather If I wanted to do some serious running I warmed them up just a tat more.

I had the 3.55 before the SC install and I really love them and even like them more with the SC. I have to shift out of first gear a little earlier but oh what it does for the rest of the gears. With the 3.55 and light weight fly wheel the car is very quick. Many like the 3.33 and some say stay with stock. But the 3.55 sure works great in my Viper.

I hope the tires will do for your Viper what they have done for mine. Keep me posted

They do grab like crazy-I can see that one could have problems if they abuse the Viper. One local Viper owner with stock tires and wheel hop problems had some things break. I would think that wheel hop would be ******* the Viper.

One good thing though more 19" tires are coming on the market so we are getting a few more tires to choose from.

Very few people are running this tire-I wish more would respond to this thread especially if they run the A6.

Do you already have the SC installed.

Another mod I like is the light weight Spec fly wheel. Viper is quicker - builds up rpm quicker and shifting is better & smoother. In city or town driving it may have just a little more Lurching.

Last winter Doug at DLM put it on for me with the SC install. I had the A6's sent to Doug and he had them put on and had a chance to drive the Viper both with the Pirelli's and the A6. Talk to Doug about how my Viper performed with the SC & the A6's.

BTW the DLM large SC cooler and pump is worth its weight in gold.

I've run A6s plenty...to run them as your only/street tire is pretty nuts. Crack is fun every so often but you don't want to try and survive on it alone...:D

It is an autocross compound tire designed to heat up quickly and work in lower temperature ranges. It is not a good (road) track tire for something as heavy as a Viper because it'll get too hot too fast. Good for qualifying tho.

The Hoosier A6 and Kumho V710, while DOT approved, are specifically not recommended by their manufacturers for highway use. Their construction makes them extremely vulnerable to punctures from road debris and other than the DOT's minimum two circumferential grooves, they have no tread to speak of. Hence, an absolute minimum of wet-weather capability.

There isn't a DOT tire that will heat cycle out faster than an A6. You can expect the first 5-6 heat cycles of peak grip, another 10 of good performance, and a rapid downhill trend from there, and sub-street tire performance towards the end. Tame street driving may not heat them up enough to constitute a heat cycle.

They are a lot lighter than most street tires and especially run-flats so that will make the car quicker, feel lighter on its feet, and help road-holding and issues like wheelhop.

For those looking for more grip than PS2s, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Kumho Victoracer, or Kumho V700 are much more sane choices for tires that'll see a mix of street miles and race-type miles.

If your A6's last more than a few hundred miles, you aren't using them the way they're supposed to be... :)

Thanks for the info but not all of this was shared with me by Hoosier and I talked with them a lot about the tire. Maybe I didn't ask the right questions. I may give them a call tomorrow.

I would like to try the R6 road course tire but I have been running the A6's for almost a year with no problems. Around 6000 on the first set and about 2500 on the present set.

The longest trip taken with the Hoosier was a round trip to Nashville. Coming home I was in in pretty heavy rain conditions for about 150 miles. No problems on the trip in fact , as mentioned ,I have not had that first problem. The first set right on up to the 6000 miles were running great. In fact they were running even better with a few grand on them.

I thought the run flats and 19" non run flats were more dangerous than the Hoosier's especially going to a quick wot . The fish tailing & wheel hop was bad but not as bad with the non run flats. Last spring a local that has a 2005 SRT 10 with the non run flats went to a quick wot - it did a pretty good fish tail and the Viper got out of control and he had a wreck.

I can only speak for my experience with the tires on the street and it has been all positive.

Now for the extra long trips and for the winter months I have given thought a few times about getting a couple more rims and install the 19" non run flats or the PS2. I still run the Pierelli non run flats on the front.
