What is best, to run round hi-flow filters tucked behind radiator or a Hennessy type box that pulls cooler air. I have been told both ways are ok but would think cooler air would be better.

I used to have the $400 cones with dropped stainless tubes setup and literally threw them away due to the hot air induction issue. Live and learn. Go with a modded air box w/o rain baffle, smooth tubes and K&N's or the HMS carbon fiber box. You will also get a better ram air effect staying with the air box in direct connection with the NACA duct. Jon B at PartsRack has a nice modded box setup. Stay cool!

MadMaxx,

Be careful with that metal airbox. The metal box is likely to transfer more heat to the intake air than a plastic one. For either box, insulation is a good idea.

We have plenty of evidence that shows how heat around the airbox negatively effects power at the rear. The cooler you can keep the sensors and air, the more power you will generate. We recommend carbon fiber, plastic, or even fiberglas over metal when it comes to airboxes and airflow.
Hope this helps!

Cold intake always produces more HP AND reduces the spark advance detonation limit (you can run more advance.)

However, I have heard that nitrous backfires can flow open an airbox and hence the usage of the ss elbows w/K&N's.

**Unrestricted** cool air, pre throttle body works best. Airboxes fabricated out of metal construction, work as an oven or heater box. The more dense air you can pack into an engines cylinders, the more power you will make.

Agree 100% with the above assessments.

Those droop-snoot cones **** hot air

.......... but they look COOOoool

Our de-baffled box (new) is only $269. You can certainly modify (or butcher!) your own for less!
