Since it is hard to argue that the new Z06 isn't on par or faster than the Gen III, I think it is time for the Viper community to start letting DC know what we would like to see in the next generation Viper. The one that should put Chevy back to second place, with no arguments.

Clearly more HP is needed. My thought is to match the SL-65 as minimum, so around 650HP would be about right.

Other things I would like to see:

1) paddle shifter
2) quaife differential
3) dry sump
4) lose some pounds
5) comp coupe styling

  :2tu: :headbang:

What I would like:

- Redesigned engine <= 8.0L making hp >= 600 and torque >= 600.
- Stiffer frame with lateral Gs >= 1.10
- Mid-engine layout so that the car can be lowered potentially reducing drag and increasing speed.
- Better looks than a Gen II.
- And of course, priced at 80K.

I think this is a great idea. Vipah my hat is off to you for starting a constructive thread.

Now Chris Marshall (or anyone else that understands the techno mumbo jumbo of the computer world) how can we create a poll that allows someone to vote their desires and add new items to the poll? That would be neat. And, to prevent too much undesireable input, keep it to Viper owners (not necessarily VCA).

I'd like to see some variations with regard to options packages. While it may not be cost effective, it would be nice to have something other than a color scheme with a dash plate to differentiate the cars.

1) HP > 625, TQ > 650. Maintain the similar flat shape to both curves that the current V-10 produces.

2) "Room for growth" in the engine - to achieve the numbers in point 1, the engine should not be max'ed out. There should be the ability to add a stage 1, 2, 3 type kit to the car via Mopar parts a la the SRT-4.

3) Quaife diff - I'm with you there, vipah

4) Bring more curves back to the car like the gen II. They should have evolved the gen II design not totally chucked it for the gen III. I like the gen III alot, just not as much as the gen II and I think the big difference is that the gen II has more human shapes and curves to it whereas the gen III has a more mechanical, edgier look. The curves are what makes the gen I/gen II a classic.

5) Less weight. It seems that all DCX cars these days are too heavy for their own good and the Viper is no exception to this.

6) Build it with the little things already done. For example, give us the mods most people do first anyway on the car - K&N's, smoot tubes, short throw shifter (definitely add this one). Also, since the car is still going to be over 80 g's THE DANG FLOOR MATS SHOULD COME WITH IT!

- Design more like G2 Coupe with some retro details.

- Stiffer Frame.

- 6 speed with lower 5th and 6th gear.

- 8,5l V10 with Hemiheads 650hp, 600 torque, redline 6800.

- bring back the classic colors and Paint shemes from the Musclecar era like Go Mango, Sublime, Top Banana etc.

- No senseless gadgets like touchscreens, keyless starter and other electronic stuff that will make trouble sooner or later.

this is what I want to see (its a long list)
three models base, acr, lm. base model will be the regualar viper, acr will be the more powerful viper and the lm will be the street legal verson of the future le mans viper. two versons, coupe and convertable. the coupe will be available in every model. convertable only in base and limited in the acr. the lm will be a coupe but targa top. also a limited prodution targa top (like the ferrari superamerica). heres what (hopefully) they will be like.

Base model
--engine 8.5 liter v-10 600 hp and 630 pounds of torque
-- more exotic interior
--NO CUPHOLDER, NO NAVIGATION, NO PADDLE SHIFTERS, NO AUTOMATIC
-- new looks with a mix of gen 3 styling and gen 2 styling (curvy and edgy)
-- more options colors, stripes, more than one color interior, wheels
-- lighten the car 200 pounds at least
-- lambo doors (maybe)
-- side exhaust
-- less than 2000 per year
-- 80k dollars

ACR model
--engine 8.5 liter 650hp 680 pounds of torque
--traction control switch
--rear brake scoop
-- more agreesive styling than base model
-- a little different interior than base (carbon fiber maybe)
-- different wheels
-- rear exhaust
-- less than 750 a year
- 100k dollars

LM model (a ferrari enzo fighter)
--ridiculous engine (10 liter 1000 hp 1100 torque)
--way more exotic exterior (but still looks like a viper)
-- very light
-- lambo doors
-- less than 500 total prodution
-- 400K dollars

What do you people have against paddle shifters, especially if the they are connected to a real manual box instead of an automanual (like Porsche's Tiptronic)? They seem to work pretty good for the F1 boys and other racers. Not to mention most current street Ferraris and other exotics (the F1 trans/paddle shifter is optional on current Ferrari models, as I understand it, but most of the cars are sold with it...or so I read).

Sequential manual transmissions are better than any of us. Heck, they are better than the F1 pilots, as well.

I dont own one so you can ignore me but i got my own suggestions.;)

-More power, around 600-650 sounds right
-Get her hitting 1.10G
-Lose some pounds
-Dry sump
-***keep price down as much as possible*** (given)
-Quife
-Old Mopar paint schemes would be cool, but its important they have their own Viper flair

It's interesting you guys keep hitting on the 8.5L displacement since a very solid rumor has it that the next V-10 is actually 8.4L in displacement.

1. Fix the conflicting styling cues and return to a more menacing design. Maybe a designer who is over 50 and actually remembers the feel and spirit of the original muscle cars should be consulted. It is no coincidence that Lutz pushed the Gen I and Gen II Vipers and now Lutz is at GM and pushed the ZO6. Say what you want but he knows cars.
2. Change the gauge array back to a horizontal presentation at or near eye level.
3. Shorten the shifter shaft, or at least provide an option for a shorter one.
4. Provide a twin screw supercharger option with intercooler and the necessary attendant equipment upgrades to handle the increased power. ( Probably an option in the $7500.00 to $10,000.00 range.)
5. Stop producing the silly limited edition yuppy versions that are meaningless from a performance point of view and put the budget for this nonsense into the development of additional performance options. Return the Viper SRT program to its minimalist, purist routes. The motto for the Viper should be: "Performance is its business. Its ONLY business."

Please note I enjoy my Viper as my primary daily car.

My list:

Factory Power Plug for Radar Detectors (Valentine 1 is my choice)

Cruise Control
I enjoy driving my Viper and have driven over 5200 in my first 4 months; cruise control would help avoid speeding tickets!!

Closer Ratio 5th and 6 th Gear (.8:1 5th, .65:1 6th)

More Power is Always Good

Padded Door Panel Arm Rests

Trunk Light

Keep the Engine Simple and Maintenance Free (no DOHCs, V V T, etc)

Better ingree/egree (quite a twist to get into and out of-but worth it!)

#1. go on a diet and loose some weight 250-300 lbs. Most important.
2. Hp to 650 is good for me, say hemi is good?
3. front end need to go comp coup or something more aggressive.
4. quaife
5. maybe shake the plastic out of the interior and rear exit exhaust for my ears. Dry sump.
6. If we get hp how about some traction, tires and control.

Lose the cupholder.
Make the motor shake.
Make the gears whine.
Penske shocks.
Quaife.

I agree with Chuck but I'll take mine with less weight and a return to more classic looks.

MOST IMPORTANT: KEEP IT A VIPER

PLEASE DC Don't make the car into something it's not.

NO paddle shifter
NO Cruise Control
NO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
NO heated seats
NO TRACTION CONTROL OR ANY OTHER DRIVING AIDES

I would rather see the viper die than be made into something it's not.

Unfortunately, the poll feature of this site is limited to selecting only one item - and you can only "vote" once. And I suspect that on a list of options you would have horsepower being selected overwhelmingly. So, I will post a poll similar to what is requested on another Viper site. One that allows "multiple choice" polls. Sorry about that!

Uh.... less heat in the cabin????
I'm sure they are looking into that already (previous thread)...

I love the styling of my current Viper but i wouldn't mind seeing something with a "little" more "radical" (aggressiveness)in the design.. :2tu: :2tu:

Nice post Vipah..

1) No paddle shifter, if I want an "auto-matic" (because these paddle shifters 'always' seem to come with a 'no driver required mode') I'll get a lexus not to mention the "feel" "flicking your fingers" to change gears isn't that engerizing. As for a sequential gearbox, sure, make that an option, Quaife makes one:

2) quaife differential - YOU BET!

3) dry sump - ABSOUTELY! (though the comp couple oil pan and pickup are giving me 75+psi at "any angle")

4) lose some pounds - let me refine this, lower UNSPRUNG weight would be very very good, the wheels are TOO heavy as are the rotors/pistons/calipers

5) comp coupe styling - hmm, maybe, but you can't beat the lines of the GTS, love the curves, more curves

6) Rear exhaust - yes, prefer rear exhaust for when I'm not wearing a helmet, nice to not go "deaf" while drving (that is while using a louder than stock exhaust setup)

7) less cabin heat, do something with those cats, move'm back and use less restrictive(less heavy) units, will save weight and not cook the interior (easier to move them back with a rear exhaust...)

8) Motons or other adjustable shock setup

9) You could go crazy with the motor, move away from the pushrod system...update that

Be sure to "keep" the great seats with built-in racebelt hookups (would be nice to add double eyebolts in the floor to handle a 6-point belt, perhaps slots in the seat bottom so the "groin belts" don't have to wrap around the front of the seat)

If you do any "special editions" make it something more than cosmetic, do some performance go-gos (think ACR).

Forget "lambo" doors, they are a pain in the behind when using garage lifts (I have a Lambo, I can't put it "underneath" another car because I have almost no room to open the door much less "crawl out", so the Lambo always goes "on top").

The gauges should be put back "horizontal" across the top of the dash (like the GTS), the vertical SRT10 arrangement is difficult to view while on the track, I have to "quickly" pickup my right arm when I am on a straight and quickly glance to make sure I'm doing ok, this is very distracting.

If you make a special wheel, make an extra run so you have some spares (think smokecoat VCA edition rims), I would think at least 20% over production needs.

Put a better lock on the center console "glovebox", mine pops open on the track when I'm doing high speed turns, the car flexs too much I guess and it pops open, damndest thing!

Keep the Viper as "junk free" as possible, I know more and more federal regs require more and more junk, do your best to work with those.

that's my $.02

-Keep the stock gears
-Quaife Diff (***, even the srt-4 gets that)
-Diff cooler and dry sump stock
-get rid of the dumb hydraulic fan
-4 valve DOHC 522ci motor, get that puppy spinnin 7500 and 650hp will be a joke.

- Wrap it all with a GTS body :headbang:

i think traction control would be okay, but just make it so you can switch it COMPLETELY off when you wish.
