Adam,
There is a sight glass on the ac drier located next to the intake plenum. If you see air bubbles in the window with the ac on after a couple of minutes, the freon may be low.

I very rarely use my airconditioner. The compressor went out about a year ago. I had it replaced. I went to use the A/C about two weeks ago and it wouldn't work. The mechanic charged it up and now it works fine. He said there is very little refrigerant in the system and it will shut off if its low. He said it doesn't take much loss for this to happen. He said he could spend a few hours digging around under the car to look for a leak, but felt his and my time would be better spent just charging it up periodically.

My A/C went out when the car was 8-10 months old (bought new)... condenser leaked .....Viper tech happens somewhat regularly on newer Vipers (my is a 2001). Check your warranty or extended warranty, if its cover insist on replacement not freon. They are expensive out of pocket cost.

I am suspecting there is a leak somewhere. I just had it recharged and it's blowing cold, but not real cold. I just had the compressor replaced under warranty, but I'm worried about the compressor locking up like it did before because it was low on refrigerant and causing my belt to break. Where would be a common area for it to leak? We did a test on the system where we had a sniffer but could not find anything. Can you ovr charge a system? What do you think about the refridgerant that has a sealer in it? Is that bad for the system?

condenser leaked .... Viper Tech said he could not get sniffer in there because it is in a enclosed housing.... overchage a system risk blowing expensive a/c lines.... good luck... AB

It is the evaporator that is in the enclosed housing ,the condenser sits in front of your radiator and the evaporator can be easily accessed with a sniffer through the drain. And the risk of overcharging a system is mostly to the compressor although its not healthy for the whole system.AB...The person that told you that instead of spending many hours diagnosing your leak lets not and just keep adding freon.Do you do that when your tire leaks..I assure you a competant tech with the proper equipment could correctly diagnose your leak in less than a half an hour. The problem with just occasionally replacing freon as it leaks you are also loosing much needed Pag(synthetic)lubricating oil, adding freon alone does not replace that oil and you will sooner or later be buying another compressor.Your A/C sytem is a closed system and its worst enemy is moisture which enters a system with leaks.I would strongly advise you to remove the bandaid and have your system correctly diagnosed and repaired
