How come my alarm doesn\'t chirp after 15 seconds?

When I use to arm the alarm as I walk away it chirps again after 15 seconds. Well somehow something happened and it doesn't do it anymore.

I had a couple of check engine error codes and erased them. But they were seemingly unrelated to the alarm. One was a MAP sensor code and the other a Idle Motor code.

It seems like the alarm is arming but it just doesn't give that second chirp after 15 seconds.

Anyone know what's going on and how do I get it back?

Do you have a stock alarm? Mine only chirps right after you press the button.

If its an after market alarm, It sounds like the alarm is in the Passive mode, which means each time the ignition is turned off and all doors are closed, the system will arm it'self 15 to 20 second's is norm. It allows you time to get back in the car if you forget something. But as soon as you open the door the time resets, so when you close the door again you then have 15 to 20 seconds before the chirp.

Yes, that would be correct. I am not sure of the year, off the top of my head, but up intil a certain year the alarm would chirp when you armed it.....and then chirp a second time to confirm it was armed. I don't have my book handy, but I believe the time delay is 9 seconds?? Anyway, his is a 97 (like mine) and should chirp twice, if it is stock....as mine does. :)

Mine is totally stock. It has done that from day one.

The battery is fine.

My '97 chirps a second time when arming, about 15 seconds after the first. The service manual verifies the 15 second arming period but the owner's manual makes no mention of it.

Well, my chirp is back!

I changed my MAP sensor which threw a code a few weeks ago. Now the car is running a lot smoother and the chirp came back.

I wonder if the second chirp has any indication of errors in the electrical system?

I can't find it documented either, the registry features history page (http://ivr.viperclub.org/features.php) has the alarm reset switch added in 1999, so that might imply thats when they changed the alarm. My '00 only chirps/honks once when its armed, so they quit doing the delayed chirp '00 or before.
