How do you protect your front lip spoiler?

I haven't purchased a GTS yet, but was just wondering about the front lip. I heard they get scratched pretty easily...I know C5's have these little roller thingies you put on. They help "slide" the nose across steep ramps and etc. rather than "scraping" across the driveway.

My NSX has a lower lip too (alas I had to go through a couple of those already), but luckily it is a seperate flexible "rubbery" piece that is flat black and easily replaceable (although not cheap).

Is there anything for the Viper? Skidplates? Rollers? etc? Thanks in advance!

Nope. Sean sells a kit that helps protect the underside...and there is another kit out there that does a good job of that as well. At the end of the day....I just drive extra careful and avoid ANYTHING that looks like a figgin speed mountain!! :)

I back in to most any parking spot. I just had my nose completely re-done...clear bra goes on 2/18...then I'm being as careful as I can!

Go over all inclines and declines at an angle and back into parking spaces when you can. You will still scrape it from time to time but you don’t see it till you go to wax it.

sweet. Do you have a link to Sean's kit?

*edit* nevermind, found it.

I bought one of these kits from Roe Racing and it was exactly what I was looking for although I haven't had a chance to drive the Viper with this on yet due to winter storage. I think you just need something to take the scraping instead of the front fascia itself. I just had the front fascia repainted and this item is a lot cheaper to replace than repainting occasionally.

Hope this helps,
Santo

<< back into parking spaces when you can. >>

i have learned too that our cars are fairly small, and not pulling forward right up to a curb still leaves plenty of room behind you in parking spaces even if you are a foot or two away.

I took an unusual approach to this.

I did look into the pieces listed above, but did not want them on my car. Plus...I have yet to damage the car in that spot. Yeah, I'm careful.

What I wanted to protect was the piece a bit further back on the fasica where it sticks straight down. This is the part that I was scraping. I got a pair of the clear plastic door edge moldings that have that tacky caulk in the crack. I started either piece in the middle and worked my way towards the outside. It stays on well, and is easily removeable, either for a fresh one....or just to go back to stock. The only caution is to be cafeful when pushing them over the clear plastic tape on the corners.

Do you have any pics?

This is NO SH&T............my front end is still pristine, only 1800 miles though! I'm sure I'll get bit one day though!
If it even looks like a front end scraper I'll do a youey and go the long way.

I can't count how many times I've turned around to avoid a road repair or paving operation.

I even had my curb dip cut out at home to make a seamless smooth transition from street to driveway, as that was a ball buster dip.

Yeah......I'm anal.......so what?

LOL!!!

cobramadness....car's parked in trailer prison..but I can take a pic. I'll try to get it done ASAP.

In short....if you are familiar with the Viper's front end...you know how it sticks straight down on the end. The door edge pieces are "U" shaped and push right over the edge. It's hard to see when on the car, but I know thyey have taken a beating instead of the fascia.

Matt,
That is EXACTLY what part of Sean's kits is. Not only does the kit have the long, rubber "bumpers"...but the main piece is a long section of heavy duty, rubber-over-metal edge guard. I have that piece on my stock fascia for years...you can tell cause it is all beat to hell, down to bare metal even! :) That lip you refer to is still perfect. :)

Same principle applies, though! I even had hte short (like 6") pieces of door guard that I put at the very outboard edges.

Alas....now I have a nice splitter in front to warn me of any potential damage. :)

I had extra 1/2" of fiberglass molded under the spoiler.
Now I can scrape it allover.
I still have to back out of my driveway...(or I'll loose the whole thing)

We should be able to find that stuff in a roll somewhere. I go thru the strips every 2-3K miles. It is heavy duty though.

Here is what I did. Its tough to see, but there is 2 pieces of clear door molding running along the lip. The previous owner had already done this, so I just cleaned things up, and replaced the pieces.

By the way, this is the underneath of a 2001 with 13k miles, that has never been repainted or touched up. Yeah, Im pretty careful with it.. Made all my mistakes on the vettes I've owned.

I may have to look into the ones offered by Roe. My car is lowered, although I am careful, I still scrape at times.

I agree...the roe ones seem to be the cleanest looking ones (you don't seem them unless your getting run over by one)
