How important is prior owner count?

How much impact on value does the count of prior owners have? I'm looking at Gen 2 RT 10 with 20,000 mile and great shape, clean Carfax, etc. My only concern is there are eight prior owners. Some owned the car as little as nine months while the longest was six years. If there are no accidents, car is spotless and only 20K miles, how much value is lost due to eight prior owners? Because the nine month owners are early on and the six year owner is more recent, I'm thinking it's not so bad? It's a black 2000.

Thanks in advance,

Multiple owner are not necessarily a bad thing, however it raises a red flag, and needs to have the car checked over well, before purchasing, to determine if there was a reason that nobody kept the car for long.

no big deal in my opinion. it s the condition that you have to be concerned with and what has been done in terms of maintenance. this car is not for everybody, look at this way some people buy it and get scared of it or do not drive it and end up selling it. hope it helps. if you find some thing you like go for it. you are buying a viper after all.

Obviously, the longer these cars are around the more owners they are going to have.

After a while owner count will not even be discussed and it will boil down to the condition of the car, period.

I doubt this topic even comes up with buyers of 50s-60s Ferraris, old Mopars, etc... Who knows what buyers are thinking (impulse, investment, life-long dream). If the car is solid the car is solid.

If it gets an okay from an expert then go for it!

Depends what kind of car it is. Very typical for a Ford GT, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc... to have many previous owners. Not that typical for a Viper, but not necessarily a bad thing. Have a good PPI done to **** out potential issues. Also, keep in mind that some of those owners could just be dealers buying cars...Now days with AutoCheck and Carfax, virtually everything gets caught in the net...

I'd be a little concern since the next guy that goes to buy ti will be concerned just as you are. Doesn't mean there is something wrong but it does raise red flags in peoples minds. I am #2 on my 3400 mile 01 Sapphire Silver.

Owner count means nothing to me with the Viper. The car is so extreme that I completely understand why someone would buy one then turn around and trade it in after a short time after determining that they cant handle it.

Some say the Viper experience is like dating a stripper... :)

The actual condition of the viper is what is important to me. I don't even need a service history. Just inspect the car on a lift and give it a THOROUGH test-drive. Once purchased assume no fluids besides the oil have ever been changed and change them all at the same time. Also do other wearable items like belt, sparkplugs, ect...
