It is interesting that the coupe is coming out first this Generation. I am guessing that SRT didn't want to delay returning to LeMans as demonstrated at the unveiling of the GTS-R alongside the Gen V. I think Ralph and SRT made the right decision because racing will update the street cred and excitement of the Viper. Since I already have and am keeping my 2000 RT/10, my next viper will probably be a Gen V coupe. I reserve the right to change my mind numerous times till the extra cash and storage space materialize. :D

I could see the next RT/10 either following suit and update the original RT/10 with the hoop and rounded rear OR put the coupe rear on it. Both would look sick and It is tough to decide. Either way, I can't wait to see it.:eater:

I am waiting on both a convertable and a roadster because the original Viper should return to the pack.

Dear photoshopers and SRT,

who can make me this simple picture I so longed for in my mind, A convertible in

GTS Blue with white stripes, SRT HOOD, those awesome split six wheels, red brakes and interior

I think this will be my car.. I need to make the call in my head now

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:Not quite to Lance standards... But close...

On another note
I'd really like to see the RT/10 make a comeback! Having had an RT/10 and a Vert, at the track. For me, it was much easier to put a hardtop on the RT/10 for track days.
I didn't bother with the aftermarket full top for my Gen III... Being 5'6" it would have been too much for me to take on and off by myself...

Please keep your feedback coming, Viper fans! We, like you, love building cool new Viper models...once they are approved. Your vocal feedback can help us win funding. yes, this is a big deal, thanks.

Well if this is someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, that knows something ... it'd be disappointing to think there's not an approved design just pending sales data or second yr production. If they don't have a design yet, we've got quite a timeline before us, don't we? Aren't we then talking a minimum of 2 yrs, that's 2015, like winter of 2014/ spring of 2015, and that's at the absolute best, more likely 2016. I'm tearing up just writing that.

I can't complain, I believe the coupe was 1st due to ALMS efforts, and I can tell you that Sat was the 1st time in yrs I sat down & watched a complete ALMS race. Already have my ticks for Baltimore Grand Prix, but for the ALMS reason.

It's painful though, I'd hate to think of not being in a vert for the Viper, it's part of the whole experience to me. Could I consider an ACR, yea I could, but that may be out late too. I've been holding off on any mods to my Gen4, thinking I'd be an early adopter for a Gen5, now .. my car-christmas may be a while out. I know, I know, Poor baby.

Dave.

I really like the coupe rear and I think it will work with the convertible. It would be cool to see what other options would look like tho.

******* Vipers run deep in the Viper DNA. Something about putting the top down and listening to those side pipes ricochet off surrounding building that stirs the emotions.

Some day, when supply meets up with demand, the Roadster/Vert will be stirred back into the lineup to the great pleasure of thousands of ******* pleasure seekers.

Won't buy a coupe. I'd have to sell a few cars to be in a position to purchase a 2013, and I'm not willing to do that for a coupe. Vert or even better...RT/10.

According to my inbetween the lines reading of Ralph's statements, the styling for the convertable was considered as part of the initial design process. In fact, Ralph says to look at the body line for the coupe top. IMHO, so was the ARC. Look at all the effort made to make the R look like the street car and still perform well. Continuity in styling! It's a matter of resources; $s, time, and talented bodies. :2tu:

Gen III and IV verts w/ the coupe rear ends looks awesome... the coupe rear end on the Gen V just makes sense. Looks awesome, but I'd like to see some real rollover protection. I can't see a different rear end on a vert making the car look better IMHO.

Show me a vert, base hood, yellow, track pack w/ dark wheels = FTMFW!

That's my 2 pennies.

(I still don't know that anything will look as good as a gen II GTS, lowered w/ aftermarket wheels.)

The design Ralph showed us of the vert had different hoops on it. The overall design is an approach similar to the current gen, not an rt10, but with the coupe rear. The hoops were metal, they reminded me of the little BMW z car roadster hoops. So they could be functional roll bars. IMO it's plain stupid the current gen has no real rollbar, on the new I'm sure hoping the design teaser is showing real ones and not just fake ones made of aluminum.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I was blown away by the design that Ralph showed at VOI. In my mind the coupe rear is the only way to go. The whole design lends itself so perfectly to a vert. Real rollbars are a must in my opinion as well. Build it and they will sell. Great work Ralph and Team SRT!!!!!!

I don't think you're in the minority, unless I'm wrong too, I think most want the coupe rear. It's been a bone of contention on the verts for as long as there have been coupes. I know I sure do. I'm just bummed we have to wait for the vert, but the best things are worth waiting for.

Totally agree, I vote for the coupe rear.

I've had the Gen 1,2 and 3. I've held off on a Gen 4 only because I'm waiting for the Gen 5 convertible in a few years. I hope that SRT utilize the coupe rear on the convertible and bring the bright white back.....I can't wait!!!

I met Ralph back in August '10, shortly after he had just got the OK from Sergio M to redesign the new Viper.
He signed my car over the glove box, and when he asked me what I tought should be improved on the next Vert, I answered it needed to have the coupe's rear end and also the exposed racing gas cap. He simply replied with a smile and a Yes thumbs up sign.

You can add me to the list who's ready to put down a deposit on a Gen V roadster!! Not interested in a coupe (no offense to those who are...)

The only way I would buy a new one is in convertible form, and with the coupe rear end. I could care less about the coupe! JMO

Waiting for the vert in silver with the SRT hood as well, was nice talking with Ralph the night before he presented it at VOI12 and I told him the new car was nice but I needed a vert, and he said with a wink "wait until tomorrow night"!

How silver is the gunmetal pearl? Anyone got an image or done a photoshop of a whole car in that color?

Since this is the first Viper to be designed as a coupe, the vert will probably be disappointing (heavy, and flexible).
