I am curious as to how many Gen II Vipers are actually out there, either on the road or in a garage somewhere. I know that many of them have been wrecked and many converted to racing. Conisdering that, is there any data on how many are still driveable street cars?

According to the Viper Registry, there aren't that many to start with.

The ideal thing would be to get someone from the DMV to do an exact querry in their database.

I have an 02 ACR and I saw a Yellow Gen II RT 10 yesterday so I know there are at least 2 of them out there.;)

Your numbers (or the IVR numbers rather) are a tad confusing since they list the ACRs twice.

Yes, I did notice a duplicate on the ACR's. I simply copied the info from theviperregistry.com

About 13%-15% are / were totalled-toast. 20% wrecked in some way. That is a totally unscientific analysis of my knowledge of VCA members, and customers, and dealers, and their ratio of totalling Vipers as I have seen it unfold over 15+ years. A few years ago, (97 I think) some Insurance Institute published that VIPER had the highest rate of accidents per sold / insured number, and highest cost of repair of ALL BRANDS, with average repair cost TWICE that of the next highest - Ferrari.

The high cost = more totals....... lots of driveable totals then get "REPAIRED" so are back on the road.

Are those both US & Canada included? I'm assuming it is....

if it is... My 01 RT is still on the road, zero accidents. ;)

JonB, your info from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety remained TRUE through the 2000 report...clearly the Viper was the WORST from a collision-loss viewpoint(MUCH more that Corvette and Porsche) ...with the average repair bill in the $26,000.00 range by year 2000...and, as you know, much of the cost was the hood. Also, the report factored in both frequency (vs. production data... I THINK) as well as severity...as it was told to me when I contacted them a couple of years back. I did ask WHY they stopped reporting on Vipers given their "outstanding record"...and they claimed that it was due to the low production numbers...which I didn't totally "buy".

Remember...VIPERS don't kill people...but bad driving habits apparently do!
