How to disconnect clutch hose quick release?

Just changed the flywheel for aluminium upgrade ( with new clutch) and managed it without actually having to remove trans. Was able to move trans back about 9" and this was enough to remove flywheel and clutch. However couldn't get trans right out, or move back any further, because we couldn't figure out how to disconnect pipe at clutch slave cylinder at transmission, and also couldn't see how to disconnect pipe from master cylinder either. We tried to push, twist and turn the quick release at slave, having removed a white split plastic collar. So question is, how does quick release connection operate ? This problem had the combined intellect of both myself and Nadine, and still we were beaten. (or were we just being to gentle?)
But clutch and flywheel are fitted just fine.

Hi Joel,

Wow, that's quite a feat. I don't know of anybody else that's done that without dropping the transmission out.
To remove the dry break disconnect, you either use the *special tool*, or two small screwdrivers on either side to push the white plastic collar in, towards the transmission. The plastic ring pushes the internal retaining clips out of the way and allows you to then pull the line straight out. No fluid will spill and you should not need to bleed the clutch.

I guess we should have perservered with that quick release, but hopefully now it won't need removed again for a while. Actually the flywheel and clutch were relatively easy with the trans still in place (and hydraulics still connected) but just slid back enough to gain access with torque wrench etc. We were both pleasantly surprised at how easily everything went back together, having expected to have to wrestle the trans back in. I havn't driven Skunk yet after the new flywheel and clutch were fitted but *** drove him home and reckons there is a bit of an improvement in pickup and response. The old clutch was actually quite worn so the whole job seems doubly worthwhile anyhow.

Hey Joel,
was an alignment tool needed to put the clutch and pressure plate back together? I plan to do something similar in the coming weeks.

We used the old bolts again since they arn't stretch bolts, but knowing they were 'wet',cleaned them and recoated with loctite 'lock and seal' compound. Also used washers under the bolts due to the softness of the aluminium compared with std flywheel.

We didn't use an alignment tool, partly because with trans still in the trans tunnel there wouldn't have been room and also because you dont need to. The friction plate is exactly the same size as the surface of the pressure plate, so its possible to line them up visually. The trans went back in perfectly.
