How To Stop \"Driveway Rash\"?

I would like to know if anyone has found a way to pull in and out of your driveway without continuesly scraping and shredding the front lower facia. I know my driveway is pretty bad but you guys with the lowered cars- I don't know how you get around. I even went so far as to pour concrete between my street and driveway to try to make it smoother. It looks ugly as sh*t but helps a little. I put Roe's rubber bumpers underneath the facia and edge molding along the very bottom. That is now shredded and needs to be replaced.
I have an acr so I guess I could raise the car a bit with the adjustabble shocks but that *****.

I have created a home-made ramp with 2x8’s which helps a little.

I have found the best way to stop driveway rash is to move to a new house w/a flat driveway. Glad I could help ;)

I'm in a new house. Final paving on road and driveway is not done. The curb is a mountain :) I put crushed gravel on both sides to fashion a sort of a ramp. It works okay but I still scrape.

since the car is away now for winter, I'll be ordering a kit from Roe in the near future. I need to paint my front fascia now first :(

I'll paint my bumper when it gets bad enough you can see scrapes without climbing under the front of the car or I move to a flat driveway home. A house with a flat driveway will be a big selling point for me just b/c of the Viper

My front end is still ******, I had a contractor cut out the curb dip that leads into my driveway so now there is a seamless transition from road to driveweay

anyone ever have a body shop modify that bumber and shave off like an inch? im thinking of getting my front bumper painted this winter and having them shave off a 1/2-1" inch off the bottom..

Instead of hitting the driveway head on try approaching at an angle say say 45 Degrees or more. Once the first wheel is up the rest of the fascia should not touch. Of course some driveway no matter how you approach won't help.

Simple but precisely true! Also vary the angle of your tire when it climbs the curb. It works!

Entering on angle is essential..I also installed a blacktop wedge to transition from street to driveway which also helps and my car only has 3.5 in of clearance..no scrapes..drive slower and enter on angle..no problem..Now pulling into many parking lots at restaurant is another story..Have to limit where you take her

Very true. The only way to help the situation. I have a pretty steep driveway, and must come in at an angle everytime. Heck, ask Dimitrios, he knows when he came to my house.

I tried alot of things to soften the angle of the bump, and did the angled approach as well (though narrow driveway limited angling possibilities). These generally work but didn;t for my driveway config. You know what worked? Backing in.

Sounds goofy I know, but if the bump is abrupt (steeplike a 3 inch curb-like ****) you can back in and the angle the front fascia sees is small (because of the length of the car) and as the front wheels hit the bump (they hit before the fascia in back up mode) the fascia is lifted up to the normal driving level so there's no problem clearing the bump.

When leaving, you gotta go slow....if you make the springs compress your fasica might scrape. If it can go in backwards and not scrape, it'll go out forwards and not scrape....as long as you go slow.

Kinda sounds like Baz's biz op post come to think of it!

When I lived in Maui I had a driveway that was so steep, it was like the space shuttle taking off!

I went with concrete. The HOA had me haul it off, it couldn't touch the sidewalk. :nono:

A **.....Anyways, I made a wood ramp with a hinge in the middle that could be flipped up if they ******* about it. I covered it with a grey indoor outdoor carpet. From the street you couldn't even see it! Wish I would have took pics!

Ed,
The rubber bumper strips that go to the underside of the facia don't get scraped on my driveway, It is the lower edge that gets scraped. The kit also comes with vinyl molding with steel inside that gets pushed on to the lowered edge. It seems to help but myine is now starting to fray and hang off. I have ordered a second set until I find something better.

When I first purchased my car, I did the same thing. Was worried all the time so I backed it in for the first few months until I could get it at the right angle.

My first scrape was in Elkton, South Dakota, where I turned around to head back to Woodhouse Viper in Blair, Nebraska to have my 200 mile oil change the next day before driving it home to Ohio following the break in proceedures very anally.

Get a couple of 2 X 10's from your local hardware store - have each one cut about 4 feet in length. Place both of them in the gutter (perpendincular to the driveway) and simply drive in and out of the driveway over the two pieces of lumber. No more scrapes.
