Okay here is what happened to me, I was wondering what the trade in value of my 1993 VENOM 550 W/ 40K miles, vmania hardtop and windows, pioneer widescreen tv, gts rims AND stock gray wheels tires in perfect condition, car in perfect condition was, so I went to a local Dodge Dealership here in Chesterfield and told them I was interested in trading my Viper for a new 2004 SRT-10 They looked at my car and gave me a ridiculous price of 20k trade in value.

Two weeks later a good friend of mine said he went to the Dealership that gave me the trade in value and all the sales tech's and sales people were talking trash about me..saying that I could not afford a new Viper, I did not know how to take care of my 93 Viper, that my Viper was in terrible cosmetic and mechanical condition,they told my friend (who was a customer) that I owed 20,000.00 on my 93, my father co-signed and helped me buy the car, and that my car was only worth a max of 14,000.00!

What can I do? This dealership is making lies up about me and my car and this news is spreading rapidly throught the Chesterfield VA area and is really upsetting me. I have not talked to the dealership yet and would appreciate to hear the opinions of poeple on this forum first before I make any actions on my part.

I would be mad too. However, I do not think you should take legal action. Clearly, the dealership folks are full of **** but this is simply not worth your time. Try to sell the car through a private transaction and be done with it. Good luck.

I would speak to the people at the dealership. Explain your position, and request that such actions stop. Perhaps explain to the general manager that such unprofessional action are not appropriate.

I think you would have to base any action on some damage.
Other than making you mad, what was the damage?

They can give any value for your car and have any opinion of your skill at taking care of your car.
They do that for a living, they are pros.

Their opinion, right or wrong, probably has more value than yours.

They are jerks but I don't see how you can win anything in court.

Really, what do you think they should have given you in trade and for how much do you think the dealership would sell your car.

I think they wouldn't sell your modded 93 on their lot. I think they would sell it at auction for about $28k.
I think they could have offered you $25k in trade without a loss to them.

When I bought my first viper, I went to this dealership and because I looked so young the passed me off not being able to afford it. They wouldn't even give me a price on it.

1 week later I drove back to the dealership in my just purchased 94 rt/10 and asked it they wanted to sell the hardtop off of the one they had in the showroom.

I am sure they weren't impressed especially when someone was looking at the car and asked where I bought mine and how much I paid.

Now this dealership call's me when they need tires and parts.

I would call Woodhouse to see what your car is worth and if you end up getting a car from someone else make the first drive right back to that dealership to see if they are "capable of servicing" the new SRT

Regardless of what they say, they lost a sale.....an $85K sale. Which means no commission or profit for the dealership, which is owned by someone who owns it to MAKE MONEY. They could have been polite and said the best option was for you to sell your car on the open market and come back for a straight purchase of the SRT. The owner(s) of the dealership need a polite, professional phone call to discuss the issue. Walk back through the stealership a few days after your call and see who's not there anymore.....they'll be over at the Honda store selling Civics, or worse maybe selling used BUICKS!

Well, I am both a lawyer and from the Richmond area (though I'm in the Triangle now). What it comes down to is how much you are harmed and how much it would cost to pursue the matter - because it is a fairly fact-intensive matter (rather than solely legal arguments), a fair amount of work would be needed (deposing the various salespeople, etc.) to draw out the facts needed to support such a claim. If you think that such costs are (a) not a problem for you (often not good to pursue a suit purely based on principle though), or (b) less than the damages you could recoup, combined with the risk in pursuing the claim, then it's worth pursuing. Otherwise, just let it ride and pull and ELF on them and their SUVs

Yeah, it is not worth the time or effort gettin upset over this.

I had the same thing happen to me a few years back. I was young and looking at a Subaru SVX ( I thought they were cool at the time...I was young). The sales person didn't even give me the time of day.

So I bought a new 300ZX that was a bright yellow and drove it to the Subaru dealership about a week later. The same sales person came out and asked if he could help me. I told him he had his chance last week and then just drove off.

The look on his face was priceless.

Remember, you are the customer. If this dealership is jerking you around, then they don't deserve your business. Go buy your new baby and enjoy it.

Eldiablo's suggestion works for me! I did this to a dealer on a cherokee purchase== dealer #1 would not deal. I went to dealer #2-- they dealt and transfered vehicle. Dealer #1's salesman called in a coulple of weeks to see if I was still interested. " This might come as a suprise, but the Jeep is in my garage, bye!" Ahhhhh revenge is sweet. John

Well it upsets me because its spreading around my area, people have actually visited my work and have mentioned it. I get so much crap because of my age (22) but I would really have appreciated it if the dealership would have kept my info private by not spreading it around to the customers and employees, and not making lies about me, thank you all for your info I will call them tomorrow and talk to them about this, and keep you all posted on the results.

I kinda agree with Venom600hp. I know how it feels to have false info spread about your baby. Someone at work started saying they saw smoke coming out my SRT's tailpipe. Um, I don't have TAILPIPES! Small claims court would be an easy win. All Venom has to do is have 1 or 2 people who directly heard an employee of the dealership say something false about the condition of the car, and that they were thinking about buying the car until the false info made them think twice. Even judge Judy couldn't disagree that the potential private sale was corrupted by dealers slander. On the other hand, it's NOT WORTH THE AGGREVATION! or the risk of a corrupt judge. All the dealer has to do is offer the judge a 'behind the scenes' deal on a new Ram 1500 in exchange for a ruling on their side. I've seen it happen before.

there is nothing you can do. they have not done anything illegal. you went for a quote, they gave it to you and they talk [******] after that for one reason or another. maybe a bad business practice, but thats about it.

So why would you care at all? If you have a clear title with no liens, it says so. If you have a lien the title says so. It's not as if the fact you have loan lien is a big deal except during the payoff. Chesterfield County isn't the only place you'd sell the Viper. Again, willing sellers and buyers. With all your mods/accessories, the dealer doesn't want to sit on the spare parts, wheels, etc. nor does he want to guarantee a heavily modded, 40,000 mile motor to a new buyer.

BTW, this is the same dealer in 1991 that wanted to sell me a Stealth for $2000 over sticker. I bought one for invoice across town.

You can find a much better deal purchasing and selling elsewhere.

Move on.
