yup...too old...my warranty just ran up in may and i couldn't renew it...

If they did renew it and i was given the 5 yrs/ 50,000 miles, does that mean that i will be covered until the year 2011?

I know some of those guys say they can't get you a warranty, but don't give up! Call other dealers, someone out there will be willing to sell you one (even a Chrysler MaxCare). Yes, a 5 year warranty would be good until 2011.

I have the Max Care (or did ) on my 2000 wand was told by Bill P at Woodhouse that no futher factory was available.

I don't understand either. All I know is you call some dealers and they say its not available, then you call others and they are more than happy to sell it to you. I suggest calling some of your local dealers.

Get this - I got an advertisement in the mail saying I could call about an extended warranty on my '01 GTS.
Just for a goof, I called the place. I told them the car had 2,500 miles on it. I told them I'd probably drive it less than 500 miles a year.
They wouldn't touch it. When I asked why they sent me a flyer, the guy responded that their system sometimes does that.

Chuck is a great guy and has helped me out, along with countless other Viper owners, quite a few times. He was the first person I called to get an extended warranty on my Viper, but I was told my car was too far pass the in service date to get one. A few other dealers gave me the same answer, but just as many were willing to sell me one. I'm sure Chuck gave me the straight answer like he always does, but obviously there are some "gray areas". Maybe the dealers are not supposed to sell them, but they are and Dodge is allowing them to go through. I encourage anyone that wants an extended Chrysler MaxCare warranty to check around!
Okay, here's is what I found when I did some digging on this subject. Apparently if a DODGE dealer actually sold you the car (meaning the dealer is familiar with the car) they can write you an extended warranty as they are basically vouching for the cars condition to Dodge. Dodge will write that warranty back to a certain time frame. But if you bought it from a private party, or some other NON Dodge dealer, you may be out of luck. Bear in mind we are talking about a Dodge warranty, not some after market crap.
Now when I was looking around I had an unscrupulous local Dodge dealer offer me an extended warranty by Dodge, they were going to say that they sold me the car or somehow forge the paperwork to allow them to do it. But I didn't do it, mainly because an honest dealer (Chuck Tator) said no way, they are lying and if Dodge finds out goodbye warranty. All the honest dealers like Chuck and Woodhouse said no, some dirtbags said yes.
I could be wrong on the above, but this was my understanding at the time.

ViperJon, that's pretty much my understanding too. I don't think the dealers I talked to that were willing to sell me a warranty were planning to forge any paperwork, but I could be wrong. I doubt I will have problems with Chrysler coming back to me to withdraw the warranty (if so I'll be more than happy to take my money back). All I know is I have a little more peace of mind for the next 5 years

Assuming you bought a Viper privately (not from a dealer), what is the official cutoff where it becomes "too old" to buy an extended warranty? Are there any contingencies other than age/mileage?
Here is a little clarification on service contracts (I do this for a living)...
IF you're out of your factory warranty and you did NOT buy the car(Viper in this case) from a Dodge dealer...you're out...
BUT, if you buy the car (Viper) from a Dodge dealer you can still buy a service contract from them only and usually only at the time you purchase the car...sometimes if you decline at purchase and then come back a few weeks later they will still sell you the policy, thats the grey area.
The whole reason behind this is when a dealer sells you a pre-owned car (no matter how used) it has to go through the shop to get safety inspected. Now a Viper will go through a more comprehensive inspection because the service guys want to make money...anyway, this procedure generates an RO (repair order) and basically proves to Dodge that the service dept did inspect the car.
Now heres the hitch...if the dealer sells you a service contract (on a car out-of-warranty) and there is a claim, the issuing dealer must be able to prove that the car was inspected, if not...basically what ViperJon said...no warranty. Basically this is the same for all makes of cars, but not always because of different state laws etc.

Sorry Dan your wrong! I can sell you a service contract up to 48 months or 48,000 miles from the in service date for a private sale!
For a sale from a DC dealer [pre-owned]:
Eligible vehicles 1994 to current model year.
15 months/18,000 miles, up to 125,000 miles
27 months/33,000 miles, up to 100,000 miles
39 months/48,000 miles, up to 75,000 miles
51 months/63,000 miles, up to 50,000 miles

Chuck, So if I understand this it is only available upon purchase of vehicle. I have owned mine for a little over 3 years and it expired last March. She's a 1998 with 25K-can I or can I not get a extended warranty from you?

You can buy a SC from any dealer for a DC vehicle up to 48 months and up to 48,000 miles ONLY! If you buy a used vehicle from a DC dealer you can purchase a SC [follow chart above] ONLY from that dealer that sold you the vehicle and ONLY within the first 30 days of ownership.
Bill, sorry you can't get a SC, at least from a honest dealer.

I bought my 98' GTS last fall from a private owner. I took it to Roanoke for some suspension work a month or so after I bought it and THEY offered me a Maxcare warranty for it. I didn't ask for one, I did not inquire about one, it was their offer. If I remember correctly, it was around $2300. So, what's the deal with that?
According to Chuck, that is not technically possible then.
This is how it went down with me in an abbreviated version.
I had my car MISdiagnosed by a local Dodge dealer. I was told I needed major engine work. At the same time, they approached me about buying an extended warranty that would cover the major engine work. I though that was awfully coincidental them pushing an extended warranty on me AND me needing extensive work done.
So I took my car to Chuck for a second opinion. He correctly diagnosed my MINOR engine problem and fixed it, but told me that there was NO extended warranty available for my year (98) from a private seller, and that is what he is saying here.
So I can only conclude some dealers are more than willing to fudge/lie/cheat Dodge to sell an extended warranty. Chuck is honest, so he won't do it. Not only do they sell it initially, but then get all the warranty repair work as well.
