Both cars bone stock. Both cars ran side by side, no clear winner. Viper pulls pretty hard in 4th, Porsche gains some back in 5th.

2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S ($186K MSRP) vs 2013 SRT Viper ($112K MSRP). Started at 60 in 2nd.

Way to represent. Well done. It sounded and looked like the speed of his paddle shifting was an advantage. I cannot help but wonder what your Viper would have done to him if it had the same type of tranny.

What do these newer Turbo S's make, 530 - 540 hp? PDK?

They weigh as much as a Viper I think, like over 3,500lbs. I am surprised it was starting to pull the Viper in 5th with that much of a hp discrepancy (100hp or so deficit) with roughly the same weight.

Pumpgas. I think the power distribution under the curve together with the efficiency of the tranny accounts for what you are mentioning. The Nissan GTR exhibits the same phenomenon for the same reasons. That is what I see every time we have a private track day at Palm Beach. The GTR and the Porsche Turbo are close.

The 911 also has a higher redline that takes advantage of the torque multiplication effect of each lower gear before upshifting to the next. Give the Viper even another 500 rpm and it would make a big difference to acceleration.

Viper vs Turbo S = pretty equal.........but what's with the Yellow one blowing by both of them ???

Yellow car = highly modified GT2 turbo 911. Somewhere in the 750-800 rwhp range. He was just getting some easy revenge from when he saw the back of my blue Viper :)

Peak hp doesn't mean instant win. The Turbo-S has all of the latest technology. They are 10-second cars stock, and usually trap 128-130 in the 1/4-mile. Not to be taken lightly.

good race and good driving in the Viper... just shows how good the DCT transmissions are, 100HP less and more weight and you're side by side...

he ran your race, did you run his? from a dig? :)

I know a 911 Turbo S will dominate a Gen .5 in the quarter, but I am surprised it will hang with the Gen.5 from a roll. The constant power delivery with those turbos at full boost with the DCT/PDK is insane...

Both are bad ass...

I have to be honest. I wouldn't have thought the Turbo S would hang from a roll.

I have a new Turbo S,it runs 10.70/80s all day long bone stock, it is very fast from a roll also,I am also surprised it will stay with a 640 car from a roll...

A bone stock car (Turbo S) running 10's bone stock is amazing... wish it wasn't so dam pricy.

Guys, you only have to compare 1/4-mile trap speeds to know how well cars will do from a highway roll. Both of these cars trap nearly identical. I don't know of any other naturally aspirated cars out there that can run with a Viper. Keep that in mind.

Lamborghini LP560, Aventador, new Ferarri 458 Speciale etc come to mind as NA cars that will run with or beat the Viper. But you see the price of entry you have to go to get a car to handle the Viper. The Viper is faaast no question. Nice run with the Turbo P-car. I'm not surprised it stayed with the Viper from a roll as that is what DCT tyrannies allow a less powerful to do. One can only imagine the nastiness that would ensue if the Viper ever get a gearbox and LC like some of its competition. The fact it can run with these techno marvels is a tribute to its potency IMHO. A DCT would bring out its latent venom though.

Agreed. As much as we manual-driving purists hate to admit it, having shifts at full WOT in milliseconds does make a couple car lengths difference at the finish line. I wouldn't mind seeing a DCT option for the next ACR, or even for the non-ACR. It is good to have choices.

Looks like you are right on about the F458 and the LP570 SL, both trap high 120s. Would be a good highway run with the Viper.

I wouldnt mind the OPTION for DCT. Wonder how much it will add to the price of the car however.

We are of the same mind on the Viper, either ACR or reg or both, having an "option" for DCT etc. I never want to see the manual go away ever. Forget KERS etc. DCT and proper LC and I wouldn't be surprised to see consistent mid 10's at 135+mph traps as the norm. That is if they can build a DCT box that can consistently handle Viper levels of torque.
