I ran my Totally Stock '96 GTS today at RockFalls dragstrip in Eau Claire Wisconsin. My first attempt down the track was a 13.10 with NO traction from the start. As the day went on, It was better with 12.7's being the norm if everything else went OK, but I still couldn't hook up.............VERY FRUSTRATING !! There was a 2002 Z06 Vette there too, and this guy was actually nice to me. He was running 13.10's down to 12.8's all day. His best for the day in the Vette was a 12.74..............Mine was a 12.61 at 115mph. At least that was satisfying, and I guess I'm very happy with my first attempt racing the Viper, especially coming home with no broken parts. I think if I could hook up, it should bring my times down somewhat, but what ?? My 60 foot times were always around 2.10 sec too. In a nutshell, I had a blast !!

If the Z06 was running 12.7 you should be able to get to 12.3 without mods. Keep practicing until you're consistant then make your mods.

One of my big problems at the track was that there was NO way to get around the stinkin' water burnout area. I'd roll through it, light'em up, but there was still water in the tread of the tires. One time the track guy held me at the burnout area while he "assisted me" in applying some of this so called sticky stuff to the starting line that he applied from what looked like an insecticide bottle. When I launched, it seemed like I was going through the gears a little faster than usual, and when I shifted into 3rd gear, I went at a 45 degree angle from the direction I was supposed to be going !! What a ride that was at 80+MPH. I punched the clutch, and just let the car straighten out and just coasted through the traps at a whopping 20 second quarter mile pass. After that, I went right back out there and got a 12.70 pass. If I were to get the Heavy Duty half shafts and slicks, what kind of improvement would I see ?? I'm not sure if the temp had much to do with it, but it was Humid and in the eighties when I did these runs.

Those are decent numbers. You will see your times fall with practice. Start your "mods" with K&N air filters and smooth tubes. At the track, take the spare tire out to reduce weight and drop the rear wheel tire pressure to 22 or 23 psi.
