"Owner Guarantee!!"

"While it is not required, the "Serious Winning Bidder" of this "Snake Bite Mopar" is offered to accept the owners guarantee. Fly/Drive into Mercer Island, Washington with cashiers check in Hand for Final Payment Prior to Transport and if you are not Thrilled that it was as described, You won't Own It!!! Controlled by the Spudman! The Deposit will be refunded. NO DISAPPOINTMENTS!"

That's B.S. I don't care what anyone writes, if they don't want you to fly out there with the cash and want a deposit they are up to no good. So what if you fly out there within 48 hours or give him a deposit what's the difference? With a name like Spudman how could the guy be a crook.

Like I said, if the seller balks at a pre-bid inspection, RUN, do not walk, away. Sounds way too fishy to me and the market is flooded with legitimate cars right now. Pay an extra $1-$2K more (way less than 5%) and get a car that inspires confidence.

I would do that, it should be a great experience and inspiration to buy your viper, so spend a bit more and make the inspection and transaction smoother and a memorable one.

A quote from “gtsviper”;
“I sold it to a guy who was so excited about getting it that I will never forget the smile as he drove it away.”

Looks like I got out bid, no big deal. I will just wait for another good opportunity... I had a feeling I wouldn't get the car for 51.5K... Oh well I am sure there are still plenty out there with low miles and no strange stories and stickers.

Just spent 30 minutes on the phone with "Spudman"...

After speaking with me at length, he doesn't think I'm a "tire kicker" so he agreed that if I win the auction I could fax him a photocopy of the check for the full amount. I would then fly out at his earliest convenience with the check. He added that I cannot take possesion of the car until the check clears. "Even if it's a cashier's check, it will take several days." I asked about wiring the money. "That won't clear until the following day." So I called my bank and asked them about this, and they said that I should absolutely take possession of the car at the time I give up the check (or the money is wired). They said they will give me a Letter of Guarantee that the check will be funded. I'm waiting to hear back from Spudman to see if this will be sufficient.

And although it crossed my mind, I don't think flying out with $52,000 cash strapped to my body is a good idea.
