When you pay other people to work on your stuff it is just another job to them, if they do an adequate job and don't F..K it up to bad and half way do it right you're doing good. The good people F..K it up, but they at least will go back and fix it without a lot of grief. Sometimes it's not their fault, it may be with their supplier, possibly an employee having a bad day, etc. and they have to decide do I eat the cost on this or not. You don't stay in business if you have to eat a lot of costs and give away free work, so they put their business hat on, and weigh the cost of redoing the job verses the possibly of loosing some business and pick the one that makes the most business sense. Sure there might be a few people that will take the same amount of care as you would yourself, but they are very rare. Generally when it is someone’s job, the quicker they can get your job done and move on to the next job the more money they make. It's not a hobby to them, it's a job, and generally speaking with any job the person would just as soon be doing something else. When you do it yourself its a hobby, you are not as worried about how long it takes, as you are about how good of a quality job you are doing. You do it yourself because you know its the only way to get it done right. I look at it this way even if I screw it up and have to redo it, at least I've learned something and its no worse than having someone work on it and having to take it back to them multiple times. Sometimes I just don't feel like doing the work myself so I take it in and I know that (1) it'll cost a lot more than it should and (2) after paying more than I should I will most likely have to take it back several times or (3) I’ll just fix the problems myself because its just easier, but I go into the deal knowing this. So let’s come back to reality when it comes to people working on your stuff, and accept things as just the way they are…

It might just be their job, but last I checked, indentured servitude has been long dead in the U.S., meaning they CHOSE their occupation. Not my fault if they hate what they do and there is little stopping them from moving on to something else they might like more.

So while they are offering their services, and with Vipers the rates are often at a premium, yes, I DO expect them to do a great job. Dropping several thousands for an upgrade and getting mediocre or sometimes downright awful results is simply unacceptable.

If they won't/can't perform to their advertised standards, then they should take their shingle down and get the hell out of town. But don't take a customer's money, deliver a pile of crap and expect warm regards afterwards. Public grilling is the LEAST they should expect.

I don't consider legitimate, public complaints to be whining, especially when they are the magnitude of what some people have been posting recently.

Exactly!! :headbang: If I'm paying them then I expect it done right. Please don't infer that all tuners F__K things up. Most don't. We are fortunate to have some of the greatest tuners in the world working on our cars like Underground Racing, Macedo Motorsports, DLM, Heffner, RSI, etc...... It's not just another job to these guys. It's their life and how they have chosen to earn a living. This doesn't mean that their cars never break, they do. But they also stand behind their work, and try hard to keep their customers happy. :usa:

If you're not going to do it right, then don't do it at all. When all of the fun is gone from this career, I'll find a new one but I don't see that happening in this lifetime. Everyone has made mistakes and I have eaten more than a few dollars to correct problems. Whether they were my fault or not, they were my responsibility. You have to be accountable. Now stop your whining.

Hey when you are dropping 20K$ plus to get a job done, you expect someone to answer the #$@#$$% phone. Whining? I dont think so. thats what this board is for. I only wish when I started racing so many years ago I had a reference like these chat boards. In the "old " days I got screwed bad by a boston ferrari dealer who canabalized my car for a burnt one in the shop. I was distraught as you could imagine as many of the pparts were impossible to replace, when I called the dealer out he said prove it, When I called some knowledgable club members, they laughed & said that dealer did it to everyone. Thats what makes this fourum & ones like it so usefull. You must make your own decision, but if enough people *****, there has to be something to it. I used to have an old saying, I have been screwed so you wount have to, & I spread the word to all I knew, now so many more can find out whats going on & make a more informed decision. Not to slight any tuners, but ROE,ARCHER,MACEDO,LEVIN all have stellar reputations on this board, If i were to get some work done these are some of the first places I would call. the same goes for the outstanding dealers who continue to support the VCA & their customers in general

Jim,

I think you should take be in our shoes for a few day,, put you money out there, and then wonder what the hell is going on. Think you have purchased a quality product for the car you have dreamed of most of your adult life, and open a crate a see the worst piece of crap you could imagine.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who can make a mistake, find out why the mistake was made, fix the mistake, and learn from it.

But to keep making the same mistake, over and over is a disability, and it hurts not only the person making the mistake, but the people who trusted him.

I have been a loyal fan and friend of Jason Heffner, hell, I was a guinea pig for some of past mods, and we butted heads over issue,, but I have the utmost respect for his ability to not only find out what happened, but to learn from it and make it 10 times better. He was upfront, never lied, retuned calls, and did what was RIGHT, to solve the problem.

Jason, thanks, thanks for being a standup guy, and thanks for being on the bleeding edge of Viper mods, you and few other Viper tuners have changed the Viper world for the best.

Jim,, Whining,, HELL YES,, more like sick and tired of being ripped of by some back yard mechanics.

Jim,
Sounds like you need to get screwed by a "tuner". Maybe then you would see it differently.
