Is there a way to check if the water pump is bad?

I have been thinking of upgranding mine to the higher flow with the metal impellers that viper speed sells...anyone use it? Any results?

I've been running the WCV overdrive unit with metal impeller all summer. No problems so far, but I am not sure if they still sell it. IIRC it was $595 + core.
