I was leaving home for work this morning when I noticed a clicking sound coming from my driver's side rear wheel. I pulled down a side street so I could futher investigate. It clicks several times when I accelerate from a stop. If I maintain a constant speed it doesn't do it but if I speed up or slow down with the motor I can hear it click several times. It doesn't do it when I brake only when I use the engine to slow down. Has this ever happened to any of you? Could it be a wheel bearing? Tell me what you think.
Is this going to be a pain in the as to fix??

I get a light thumping in my passenger footwell when i turn going slow, like a cv joint on a car that doesnt have em. mabey someone can help us both

Check the tires very closely. I had a ticking sound on my truck that sounded just like a valve, turned out a tire was starting to separate.

Thanks guys. I hate it when shi t breaks. Is this an easy fix? I refuse to take my car to a DODGE dealership. I have come to the conclusion all of them in the southeast absolutely ****. I guess I will try to replace it myself. While I am at it should I get some upgraded halfshafts?

I had the same noise on my C4 vette, until that time I had never heard such a noise in any car and couldn't figure out what it was. In a few months it became a screaching noise and drove me crazy. When I finally diagnosed it, I tried to replace it myself but couldn't complete the job because I didnt have the the proper place to work and not enough clearance.
So, I took it to a Corvette Mike in Anaheim and watched how easy it was for someone who knows what they are doing to replace a ujoint. He didn't even have to take the wheel off, just removed the joint attachments bolts, pryed the wheel outward and out comes the half shaft.
The viper should be very similar. Good luck.

I had a slight ticking sound comming from the left rear. Easy fix, Twisted the half shaft completely in two and the dealer replaced it. No more click!

Have you tried JD at Marietta Dodge in Atlanta? He works on a bunch of Vipers... I've used him several times, and he does great work. There is also Mike Robbins at Ringgold Dodge in North GA...

I have exacly the same clicking noise as mentioned above. i replace my own u-joints....and no luck. the job is very easy, but doesn't seem to be the solution for this. if u do however find the fix, please, please let me know.

wont be as much a pain to fix as to find it.When i bought my viper from the original owner he told me he put the car on a lift and noticed the nut to the
front sway bar was never put on so he fixed it .then sometime later when i was driving i noticed a clicking from the left rear. Guess what i was missing the nut that holds the rear sway bar end on . and it was never on because this was a brand new 2002 with 800 miles on it and the threads were rusted over and were never covered .so much for quality control. but your noise could be one of several things including a brake pad , caliper , or sometimes a rock or debris wedged by the pad . cv joints can click but they are usually on axles that turn like a front wheel drive, but screaching never heard from one.

If you just had tires put on make sure the wheel is tight. A ujoint will make the noise on acceleration, if it make the ticking noise when off the gas it is usually a loose rim.

What about over torqued lugs? Could lead to the same tiking heard from a loose lug nut if you broke the lug nut loose to remove a tire then retorqued to spec at install. It's happened before.

Maybe there is just a tiny rock stuck in the tread of one tire...
