Is this needed? Does the 2004 Viper use CAGS?

I saw this a couple of times and wondered if its a worthwhile prurchase.

---------------------------------

The 6-speed transmissions found on many sports cars are equipped with the C.A.G.S (Computer Aided Gear Selector) system. This system causes the cars to shift from 1st gear to 4th gear at low RPM.

This simple push in device allows you to eliminate that annoying first-to-fourth shift in those vehicles.

Installation is very simple and will only take 10 - 15 min with the included pictured instructions.

This is a resistor mod. This item will prevent any CEL from appearing after disabling the C.A.G.S solenoid. You will no longer be prevented from shifting into 2nd gear during conservative driving. Note: This device will not prevent the Skip Shift light from illuminating on the console/dashboard. After installation the light can be ignored.

Easily installed in less than 15 min even if you have little or no mechanical experience.

I don't know neither if Gen3 need the skip shift eliminator.
But if it does: don't buy it!
They give you only the resistor in that auction, not a complete connector like the one you find by Summit. $12 for that is not worth. You will have to bend the resistor to insert it in the plug and then put adhesive tape around to secure it. If you really want one, spend another $20 and get one with the connector.

Not trying to skimp, just trying to learn if you seasoned Viper owners see a need for this type of thing..

I'll be using mine as a daily driver...

depends on the way you drive...I never had it come on.
Ditto. All you need to do is get your RPM's above a certain point (2500?) in first gear and it disables the skip shift automatically. When I got my first Viper back in '99 I was convinced I would need the skip-shift eliminator. I gave it a couple weeks and now can't imagine buying one. Unless you really, really baby it through first gear, it will be a non-issue in a matter of days.

1st of all, congrats for using it as a DD! As for CAGS, if you shift when the light is on, arent you shifting too soon anyway? I shift mine b/t 2500-3000 and the light has gone off by then anyway

I got mine and plan on installing as soon as Spring hits. I already had a bad misshift because of being locked out of 2nd and 3rd. Took out a mailbox going around a corner.

Several vendors sell a skip shift eliminator. Parts Rack and Northwind Engineering come to mind. This also deletes the shift light. Some tuners can modify your stock computer to get rid of it too.

Most of us don't notice it too often. I only noticed mine in parking lots and when going out of or into the cul-de-sac that I live on.

The skip shift turns off at 1800 rpms. You are driving way too slow!If it blocks you just jack the shifter into 4th and back down to 2nd while the clutch is in. GTS Bruce
