Is your Viper a KEEPER?

I bought my Viper as an investment and as the ultimate fun car to drive. I bought it new just to make sure that the break in proceedure would be followed to the letter and that the Viper is never abused. I haven't even driven it at 3/4 snake pedal yet and have only hit 100 MPH twice (my Ram pick up has gone faster many times!)

The Gen I & Gen II Vipers are true classics and will start to gain in value within 5 years. In 26 more years I'll be 80 and maybe old enough to start to consider selling mine. It will be worth a mint by then.

I have owned 2-94's (black and red), a 2000 GTS (gray/stripes) and just sold my 2002 GTS FInal Ed....currently have a Gray/stripes 2002 ACR(1 of 22) and a Final ED ACR(1 of 34)....figure these cars will remain here for a very long time...would like to add a GT 2 at a later time...have a 2003 ordered in Black...not sure if it will stay or go...depends on how much fun it is ...went thru 8 different Prowlers also...finally decided on a couple to keep long term...when there are no new choices you figure out what you like best of what is out there and keep one...

I say we take Greg, run him over a few times with his own car, ooopps, sorry, the clearance is too low...he won't fit.....but then again he's lost some weight lately so he might fit.

Otherwise we can tie each of his limbs to our cars and pull him apart. At least I'll get some business out of it. But not till next week. I'm going to a car show with him this weekend.

I've had my RT/10 for 6 years now and love it.
I've been thinking about a 360 Modena lately.
I've found a silver one w/F1 shift.
4000 miles, $195,000.00.
Sweet!!

Motor City Mad Man -
This is the first manual shift car that I have ever owned and the first car I've owned that is faster than my 1970 Plymouth Duster 340 (bought new in 1970).
I respect the Viper's power enough and my lack of recent driving of a real fast car to take it easy as I build my skills. I plan on going to Viper Days in the Spring to get professional instruction in driving it.
I'm keeping my Viper until I'm too old to drive it anymore, so I have a long time to get the skills to drive it as you suggest. I'd rather error on the side of caution than become a member of the wrecked Viper club.

Greg,

I love all kinds of cars, and have owned small engined turbo autos in the past, and enjoyed the zing of getting the turbo up on boil, and shifting gears to get back up on the power curve.
So I can understand your qualms, and of course choosing a car to suit your particular tastes and needs is wise.

I'd say that you should consider going with high flow cats, and a Corsa exhaust to run cooler and quieter. I had Corsas on my Corvette, and it's nice to cruise with a mellow burble, but have the roar when you go WOT.

For me, the Viper has been a dream of mine for years, and frankly I never guessed that I would be able to afford one. I really loved my last Corvette convertible, and I didn't think that I would have sold it after owning it for a little more than a year, but the Viper was too much to pass up.

I like the Supras, and they are easily modded to provide great performance along with comfort, and in fact the C5 Corvette can be similarly fast with good comfort as well.

But the part of the Viper that I've been enjoying, that would be sorely missed if I sold it is it's unique style. Some people are intimidated by it, but most people love the Viper as it represents wild dreams, excess, and fun.

You can find that in Ferraris and other exotics, but it's not there in the Supra, which may be just as fast (or faster), but is more of a sleeper when not riced out to look outrageous.

Because I love all cars more than being devoted to a particular brand/marque I can actually see myself getting another car someday to replace my Viper. Right now I just can't imagine what would be better than the Viper for my preferences for a roadster/convertible, having supercar performance/handling, stunning style, and being reliable/affordable.

$195,000 USD or CND?? IF that is Can. dollars then it is 'only' $130k US and I'd be all over it if I were you.

Viper forever? Baring any unforseen circumstances - a definite yes. Have owned many other cars mentioned in this thread and the Viper is the only car I would consider keeping forever...

I agree Dean. i'm thinking of putting cats back in to quiet it down. But that Heat! It'll be worse. Someone offered to buy my car yesterday. I actually told him yes, but nothing is concrete. I have a lot of money invested in the car.

By the way - off the subject - does anyone know if a 97 GTs will still pass inspection (NY) without the cats. Never tried cause I just assumed it wouldn't. Mods include heads, rockers, 70mm tbs, headers, No cats, exhaust, roe vec.

My 98 GT2 009 of 100 was a keeper until 2 things happened.
1. They designed the Comp Coupe and
2. I was offered a great price for the GT2.

The GT2 has left the Viper Pit. I am now awaiting my new SRT-10 and Comp Coupe.

Yup, my 94 RT/10 Venom 550 is a keeper for me. I've kept a 66 Mustang and a 82 Honda Aspencade motorcycle. I guess I just keep everything. I even have kept my first wife!!

Hey Chuck AKA "Viper Wizard",

If I read right your '94 is going to be your coffin?

If YES, contact George @ MGW about some pall bearer handles

Chrome or Powder Coated?

i love viper but i miss my supra. i had single turbo and car made 705rwhp on pump gas. i'm been looking for clean siver 98 but they are very hard to find. it's lot harder to find supra than viper. HKS's new T51r turbo kit is awsome.

It's a day to day proposition. And today she said I could keep it.

J/K I think.

I had wanted a Viper ever since I saw my first one back in 1992. My goal was to purhcase and own one for a year. I purchased a red 1994 RT/10 two years ago. I still have it and I plan to keep it. Every day I see it in the garage, I feel like a kid at Christmas. What other kind of car can give you that feeling?
