Went to the South Plainfield location for the second time since
owning my car. These are some fine folks (Viper friendly).

I wanted to report the following firsts:

1) Do you have yuor front license plate?
Yes, sir. Showed it to them and OK.

2) They put me on the emissions dyno this time.
Last time (2 years ago) they did not.

3) Recorded a 0.0 CO% reading.
Those cats can burn up small metorites!

No offense Remster

4) They told me they just got a memo ~2 weeks ago re: Vipers.
A guy from Westfield had is sidepipe RT/10 in recently
and was not happy about the cat inspection, therfore the
memo stating the cats are hidden with a diagram showing
them in the side sills.

New sticker on and ready to drive.

Earlier this year my daughter's '88 Dodge Caravan easily passed the State of Ohio's e-check. It burns a lot of oil and leaves a smoke trail behind it...

I was worried my heavily modded '02 Dodge Ram truck might have some problems before she went through and actually passed. Well, my truck passed with an almost perfect score.

I'm glad you passed your state inspection. What mods do you have?

Ohio is one of them "backward" states that wants the front license plate on the car and I can't bend over far enough to attach the front license plate holder to my Viper. I'm going to write to my state representatives about just requiring the rear plate.

Just took the GTS yesterday to emissions. Two years ago they took one look at the RT/10, and waived it from inspection with no problem. Yesterday they did the same thing for the GTS -- No Treadmill, No Test, No Fee, No waiting in the hour long line (12-15 cars waiting, one test lane open). I hope they don't change their emissions policy here in Md. for our cars.

HELP!!! INSPECTION STATION SAYS THERE ARE NO CATS IN THE CAR

I am having trouble getting me car inspected because of the darn cats that they think are missing. I brought the car to get inspected and they failed me because they said there are no cats. I later then went to Buhler and had them run a full diagnostic on the car. They said that they are there. Now I need proof so I can pass inspection. Anyone have any ideas? Does anyone know where I could obtain a diagram?

Alabama, the same. Gotta love being able to run W/O cats. And have no smell of gas to boot! :ooo:

Re: HELP!!! INSPECTION STATION SAYS THERE ARE NO CATS IN THE CAR

I am in NJ as well and am worried about he full inspection. I know they do a break test where they drive quickly up a small ramp and stop at the top. At the end of the ramp is the shock test. My question is, is the Viper too low to get up that ramp? I would hate for the guy to crack my front lip racing up the ramp.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Can't you drive the car to be inspected with the side sills off? I know it sounds like a pain, but it only takes minutes to take off each side sill. Just a thought.

Re: HELP!!! INSPECTION STATION SAYS THERE ARE NO CATS IN THE CAR

In NH they asked for the front plate. Took me a week to get the bracket and put it on. They said; "I don't care if you tape it to the car. Just has to be on the car. When I brought the car back in. They checked the lights and horn. Slapped a sticker on it. Ain't no way they wanted to mess with pulling wheels or putting the car in the air. To much liability. If the car looks taken care of, chances are it is.

F355 Doesn't Buhler do state inspections? I thought all dealers did.

Nope unfortunately Buhler does not do inspections. Well, I just got a phone call from one of our loyal members (JOHN ACR). He told me everything and I called the place he went to get it inspected and they faxed me a copy of the exhaust system. It gives instructions on how to inspect the car and says not to take the side sills off. NJ LAW for the Viper I now see. YAY! All solved. LOL! :D

F355 - Glad it worked out
BlueGTS - They can do the brake test in the retest area which is flat. Good luck.

Don't post stuff like that, or some Dudley Do-right from the gubmint will use it as a reason to toughen up the inspection process!!!!! :D

Out here in So Cal, the results of the smog test are transmitted to the State's central computer, and your certificate is mailed from there. No chance of fraud, unless they stick the exhaust sensor up somebody else's tailpipe.

I just passed my inspection in NY with NO cats, NO front plate, and tinted windows. The cost was $10 plus I gave the guy a ride.

Re: HELP!!! INSPECTION STATION SAYS THERE ARE NO CATS IN THE CAR

When I first bought the Viper, I had to take it through the Ohio E-Check. I had to stand out in the garage bay to supervise their "mechanics." None of them could figure out where the hood release was, and one of them went to the rear of the car, couldn't find the exhaust, and actually asked me, "Is this one of them electric cars?"

I started talking to the manager who came over. He told me that they no longer put fast cars on their dyno becasuse, "... high performance cars tend to jump off it." Then he told me the real reason. He said a few years back a guy brought a rebuilt Lambo in to have the E-Check done. The kid who was running it through was about 16, and a complete screw up. Pulled it onto the rollers, put the swing arm with the fan on it in front of it, and got back in. He thought he had it in neutral, but had it in first. He started revving it to test it. It lurched off the rollers, but instead of hitting the brakes he punched the clutch. It smacked into the swing arm sending the fan grinding across the hood and shattering the windshield.

Never had a problem at Eatontown MV! Sounds like you just got unlucky your first time around.
