First off let me start by saying I am following the break in. I noticed while driving that the motor is louder (not exhust) but like the lifters or something??? Is that normal. Also I've read on the board about oil consumption with a new viper how often shoud I check it before I'm being crazy? When I did the first fill up with gas (this morning) I could not get the gas to flow without cutting off is there some magic (pull the nozzle out a little or something?? Last but not least are the floor mats NOT supposed to come with a new viper. When I purchased (new) they said the floor mats did NOT come with the car. I told them I did not think that was correct. They assured me if they were supposed to come with the car they would provide.

These questions may be only for GTS owners...I don't know?

Thanks,

Scott,

I've got a 2000 GTS, and I actually posted the same question about lifter noise when I first got it. I believe the 2000's have more valve noise than earlier GTS's (mine is very ticky sounding). I actually took it in to my local Dodge dealer, and even the Viper tech thought something was wrong. He commented that my car was noisier than the 97 GTS that they had in the shop at the same time. They never did find anything wrong, so I'm assuming this noise is normal. Maybe it has something to do with the cam change, different lash?

I'm not sure about the gas flow question. I've never had that problem, maybe it was a bad pump?

Finally, my car didn't come with floormats either. I purchased a set from Maurice Liang at the Nor. Cal. VCA site. They're really nice, although I have a Steel Grey car, and I would say that the snake on the mat doesn't really match the color of my car. The snake is more like a light blue. Still, they're pretty nice mats for $110.

Ben.

thanks for the replies!!! I guess the dealer will just have to purchase the mats. However I will check on the web site you guys mentioned.

Thanks again,

Before you buy the N. Calif mats, look into the tapestry mats people on this board have been talking about. I got the N. Calif mats and they crush down where your foot is placed and I am not satisfied with them. Maybe somebody here can tell you where the tapestry mats can be obtained.

JonB is right about the motor. I have had two gen 1's and now the gen 2 and I noticed the motor noise right away. No problems there. As for the floor mats, I dont know about that one. The dealer can work them in with the figures anyway they want to. The gas problem- Take a look at the spring they usually put around the nozzle, you will see that it is different on a lot of pumps. Get your gas where the spring is shorter and then the nozzle will go in the proper way and point the nozzle in facing straight and lay it on the little black mat they provide so you wont scratch the paint. I have never had a problem since I figured that one out. I did at first with my first Viper, but try what I am telling you and you will see. This may not work for everyone but it did for me...good luck

Scott, I have a 2000 RT/10 I don't know about lifter noise cause my top's always off (except for drag racing). I got mats from Dodge, I have the same gas filling problems as you it is very frustrating at times, sometimes gas will go in fine sometimes it cuts out so much it takes 15 min. to fill. Try changing the position of the nozzel sometimes upside down works best also you can rock the back to try and get it to "burp". The inherent oil burning problem in 2000s is limited to the first 200 cars built, I was burning a quart every 150-200 miles. My motor is now being rebuilt.
