Keeping the engine oiled at the track... What\'s enough?

Oiling issues at the track - What's enough protection for an instructor-level driver on hoosiers to keep from fragging the motor?

Pan baffles...
Accusump...
Accusump and baffles...
?

I've always had Accusump's (or dry sump) in my (non viper) race cars. I was thinking about tracking the viper a bit and don't want to fall prey to the oiling issues I've heard about. For those in the know: What's enough protection?

I would go with the later model oil pan on the 2000+ ACR's, custom baffles and accusump.

This is info I was given but have not tried. I ended up with a dry sump system and never had a chance to try out these upgrades.

Mine has seen an awful lot of track miles with sticky rubber and extremely competitive lap times. I've had the dealer pull the caps for inspection - no problems here. I don't see how an Accusump would be a bad investment.

I run Hoosiers at the track. I had a trap door oil pan and still fell victim to turn 8 at Willow Springs (like several other members).

My new engine :( now has an Accusump.

I have been putting these together for quite some time. Here is some basic information:

http://vca2.viperclub.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB24&Number=362272&Forum=All_Forums&Words=accusump&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=1&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=362112&Search=true#Post362272

Please note, those prices are NOT CURRENT. Please contact me if interested and I will see what I can do. I have much more history at this point with Canton Racing and can put them together for less.

I do recomend both an accusump and a baffle system. an accusump should be the second line of defense, not the first. A baffle system should keep most starvation situations from occuring in the first place.

I just took the accusump off of my car and am going to sell it. Pm me if you are interested. It is the 2qt electric solenoid version. Easily mounts behind the bumper bracket.

The sump pickup is in the center of the pan. I don't think there's any more propensity to starve going one direction over the other.

From my understanding the stock windage tray on pre 2000 Vipers only allows oil return on the left side, making left turns more prone to oil starvation. Be sure and put a 2000+ windage tray in if you are going to pull the pan for baffles. Also consider semi polishing the pan to improve the oil flow. Windage tray, baffles and polish are all easy do it your self installs
