Since I am buying an '08 I have been sweating over the '08 drive by wire controller giving inherently poor throttle tip in responce as many have discussed here. Good news is that some late build '08's may have the series2 controller which is the same as the '09 controller.

Anyone else hear this? Does anyone have a late build '08 who can confirm?

We had a minor issue with idle/stall with the drive-by-wire on our 2008, happened twice, and has not happened since...throttle response is VERY QUICK~! NO problems! ~juli
Good Luck with your purchase...look forward to what car you get and pics, please!

I just got mine yesterday, and I've been wondering how the drive-by-wire would feel. Especially after driving my bud's Shelby GT500 that you can't maintain a steady RPM.

I was pleasantly surprised at the throttle control and response!

Mine had been sitting since at least May too, so it was built towards the beginning of the '08 run.(I guess:dunno:)

We definitely can maintain a steady RPM...throttle response is VERY good. Our build was Dec. 2007.

I have a later build car. How do I check to see whether it has an '08 controller or '09 Series 2 controller?

No throttle/idle issue in my '08 whatsoever either. In fact, I don't want the throttle opening curve to change at all.

I don't have any "problems" but I don't like the feel of the TBW on the 08, it seems less connected. It feels more like a video game than a viper should. The response is fine but it just doesn't feel the same.

I picked up my 08 in September and haven't had any issues. I can detect the slight delay but it is so insigificant I don't think of it.

If you look for it, you can tell the difference especially when you blurp the throttle. However, I really never notice it when driving the car otherwise...transparent to me.

If you find its a real issue, I believe you can have your 08 re-flashed to utilize the 09 program. From what I hear, its a very easy fix and I believe some have had it done under warranty.

There really is not an "issue" with the 08' cars as they are the way they are and most people have no concerns with any throttle response delays. The 09' PCM though was not installed in any of the 08' Vipers though to answer your questions.

If you have an 08 and want to see the delay that is being mentioned just bounce your foot on the gas. Nothing will happen.

J&R,
Wow that seems very severe if no throttle responce when you bounce your foot on the throttle, I would not expect that and would not like that much delay. It would take a lot of getting used too.
It appears to seem worse to others and not at all to some, but I do expect an instanteous jump ion rpm to blipping the throttle and if the reaction is delayed at all rpms or just off idle maybe I could adjust somewhat but it surewould take a lot of the fun out of my ownership.
Thanks to everyone who responded to the question.

I was in the beast (garage only, no driving in the Northeast!) last night and fired up the ACR and let it heat up for about 15 minutes until everything was at operating temp. I then jumped on the gas and immediately off. Every time the car revved to approx 1800 and then back down to to idle. I saw no delay at all, no matter how hard I tried to drop the pedal and immediately jump off it. Car is an August '08 build.
