Hi Everyone,

After several hundred hours of development and months of the car being down, here's a current picture of the R&D setup on our GTS. This one will be coming off the car in 2 or 3 weeks so we can finalize and test the first prototype production unit.
We're a little behind our schedule, but are trying to catch back up. Just thought you guys (and gals) would like an update.
This is not the look of the final kit, just the most current R&D iteration.

Sean

Looks nice. Do you have a pic of the aluminum cross brace area? Did you cut it to make room for the belt? Thanks.

Thanks Mes,
No changes to the cross brace were necessary, all stock up front. One part of the design requirement was to make it as easy to install as possible (so your car doesn't have to be down or away for months like mine

). The SC runs off the stock serpentine belt setup with a longer 7 rib belt. Because of the boost level we're running (5 psi) and the resulting low drag of the SC, we didn't have to key the crankshaft.

p.s.
Emailed you a picture.

Yes folks, it's running and is currently at the engine tuning facility

Chuck,
The mods to the fuel system are fairly light at this boost level, but are critically important to get right. As you can see, the injectors are not stock. I won't go into any more detail right now, but the fuel and engine management is being done by a very specialized shop. The engine tuning and driveability is one of the strong points of what we're building.

Mark,
It's not a Whipple. Whipple doesn't manufacture superchargers. This is an Autorotor twin screw.

IBV,
We haven't figured out a name for this first level yet, but the minimum gain is 100 RWHP, maybe more

. There will be upgrades available to add more power (more boost and fuel) to the base system. Price will be low, comparatively speaking (you'll be able to put it on your credit card), and you won't have to send your car away to have it installed. But, we're not going to be making the kind of HP as the big DLM and SVS SC systems either.

Sean:

I see you keep blacking out the back part of the supercharger where the air flows into the unit.... Is there some reason for this or is that the big secret. I am very curious to see how you will get the needed airflow into the system because it seems it will take a "hard" 90 degree turn to mount up to the back thus causing a real bottle neck. Very interesting to see how this turns out!!!!!!

Thanks,
Mark H.

Hi Mark,

The air inlet to the SC is ok right now, but not optimal. It was not made (on this one), the way I wanted it done. So, instead of showing it and having other people point out something that could be done better, I decided to black it out. Even with this less than optimum setup, the SC as pictured made 5 lbs of boost on the dyno. The next one will have a larger plenum area at the inlet of the SC and will be better. May require a change in the pulley size. This is just the R&D setup and is coming off the car in a couple weeks, though I will publish what it does on the dyno, as is, before it comes off.

Chuck,
At the moment, the VEC1 is being used for tuning.

Jason,
It sounds normal at low loads and very strong under boost. I'll record a sound file when it gets its DynoJet test and runs a full rpm sweep. All the tuning is being done on a Clayton load dyno.

Sean, I'll be wanting one of your supercharger kits. What is the final color going to be? How about making it all the same red color as the Viper engine valve covers with a nice Viper sneaky pete logo on top. I can't wait to hear how it sounds.

Based on the input from the questionare we did a few eeeks back, we'll be offering the SC in polished aluminum. The intake tubes, powder coated red in the picture, will either be polished or something else I have in mind. It will really depend on the manufacturing process we end up with.

Sean, why would anyone have to key the crank anyway? I have heard this for years about keying the crank, is'nt the stock crank already keyed for the main pulley/harmonic balancer? Paolo

*Ahem*

Does anybody with suitable knowledge about this subject care to comment? Sean, Doug Levin, Heffner, anybody?? Inquiring minds want to know...

The stock crankshaft is not keyed. Too much drag from the accessories (including the SC) and it could slip.
