Less powerful brake :-(

I used a little bit my wonderful Rt10 but i noted that the brake are not powerful..
This is very strange because i haven't Abs (m.y. 2000).. Wheels don't blocked..and braking always are too long..I press very ******* the brake pedal but is not enough :-(

brake servo works. Sometime i hear a little whistle.

Did you ever change the brake fluid? Is there air in the system? Might be a good idea to flush the system with new fluid - maybe the brake pads are glazed? Try a few hard stops to heat them up and then drive a bit to let them cool off. But generally, the Viper needs a bit more force on the pedal to brake well...

If you hear a whistle you might have a vacuum leak, check vacuum hose to power booster.

Bleeding the brakes would be first thing to do. What color is the fluid in the reservoir? If its dark brown or black, it's definitely overdue. It should almost look clear.

The next possibility is that someone changed the pads to EBC Greens or some other low dusting equivalent. While those pads are great at keeping your wheels clean, they don't stop as well. Years ago, I drove my buddies RT/10 back from NJ to MD and first time I hit the brakes I was in shock at how poor they were. We both had the same year car with about the same miles. Only difference? I had stock pads and he had EBC Green. I had a set of EBC greens to put on my car, but I ended up selling them because I would rather clean my wheels more often than loose braking efficiency.

is this "generally" that causes problem to me...because here nobody has Viper and i have not basis for comparison...Everything could be normal...I could make you a long doubts list about my Viper!

Put EBC greens on my RT/10....Very little dust but gave up about 25% braking power.

Definitely, depending upon the brake pads and whether the rotors were resurfaced, these brakes may not have been "bedded in" if they were recently installed.

just take it easy, Casper and get used to the car first. How is the roads around where you live.? i was in Rome this summer and roads were horrible. If you wanted to have a sportscar you just could not. heaven for H1 hummer though...

Casper, Since you just took this car on, go ahead and flush your brake fluid unless it's been done recently. You can easily tell by the color ... clear/light amber is OK ... dark/black IS NOT. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and turns dark. The moisture mixed in the fluid compresses more than the fluid does and makes your brakes much less effective. Bleed and flush and then enjoy your new beast.
