SRT should develop a new stand-alone like a Pectal or AEM Infinity that can be used on the 2013 and later cars AND retrofitted to the 2008-2010. How hard can that be?

If SRT is reading this .... I think the new Viper is BEAUTIFUL and I am so glad you brought this legend back! For me to trade in my 03 Viper you would have to bring back the convertible.

Also if SRT is reading this... THANK YOU for my 03 Viper, it has never given me problems and is a blast to drive,I have had this beauty for 8 years now.

Of course they are reading this, it's their question!

Wider rear fenders and unlocked PCM

After dirving and loving my GTS for almost 3 months now, I was able to fix /upgrade a few things that, for me, would make the car better suit my taste.
1- Seats were too high, so I removed the 1" stoppers : problem solved, I now have better vision and sit more confortably. 2 minute job, $0.
2- Did not like the look of the all black front grill, so I had it painted body color for $300 : The look improved and I now get the feeling I drive a more exclusive car.
3- Wanted better street tires : Ordered an extra set of Sidewinder wheels ($2395 at Partsrack) and mounted Mich PSS tires all around ($1,425 at Partsrack): Keeping the Corsas on the other set for dedicated track duty, tires to be eventually replaced with Mich PSC.
4- Felt the Hyper Black wheels were missing some bling : Got the front face machined to bare metal and had them cleared ($500 local wheel repair shop): Keeps the factory look but the wheels now pop a bit more to the eye.
5- Felt the exhaust was a bit too tame for a Viper and was getting annoyed by the Drone at cruising speed : Got a new Corsa cat back exhaust ($1295 at Partsrack) and car now sound mean with lots of popping on decel without being obnoxious
6- Got windows tinted and front-sides clear bra wrapped.
7- Searched the net to find some custom luggage that would fit and match the Sepia interior for still more exclusivity.

-Now that I sit back and look at the car thinking "What's next?", I feel the rear end is not wide enough compared to the front and would like an aftermarket shop to come-up with a wider rear fender (or kit), ala Porshe Turbo type, and a 1" to 1 1/2" wheel adapter kit to match.
- I will add the aero kit when available from Mopar or the aftermarket, rear spoiler and front splitters to get the more exclusive/menacing street look and add some stability for high speed track driving.
- I will look at improved breaking options when they become available.
- I would also like to get the magical 700 hp from this car, so an unlocked PCM with a few bolt-ons like headers would do the trick.
I always felt the Viper ownership experience to be similar to the Harley philosophy where you buy the basic model and color of your choice and then personalise it to suit your own taste and make a statement.

all joking aside, srt marketing needs to attract new buys, as the old diehards will always buy. Think corvette offerings: a mild v8/v10 for the entry; a stout v10 for the diehard fan, and an off the wall large displacement FI for those of us nuts enough to buy it. This is the only way the viper will stay viable. Also, don't discount those that paid a premium for the above entry models by offering the looks to those of the near base models.
Boy! You guys are tuff, I didn't think I had to state the stock HP..... My 4 month old son already knows the GEN V stock HP For those NOT smarter than a zero grader it meant 100HP over it's already making. So much for short hand posting! Anyway, I know you guys are busting my balls. My ******* aren't in a bunch. Since we're on the subject. It's either 100 MORE HP or aluminum frame, but I think the aluminum frame would be cost prohibited for Chrysler than adding more HP?

I am also curious to why there is no car configuration tool on the drivesrt website for the Viper.

They could have at least taken pics of every combo that came off the line and had a gallery of cars, so you can SEE the combos.

^^All part of the marketing ball that was dropped. I think SRT will have to improve the marketing strategy [and all that goes with it, website etc] simultaneously with the improvements to the car in the future. The good thing is they now know what doesn't work.

Great thread. Thanks to SRT engineers for dropping in....ACRuCrazy has a number of good ideas. Mine are:
1.Paddle shifters
2. ACR
3. Seats that are firm, comfortable, and more padding.
4. Quality control.

Following the Tesla remarks, wonder if it would make sense for Viper to make a kick ass 4 door or SUV.

Before shouting Blasphemy, the market place for 2 seater sports cars will always be rather small.

If the V-10, Viper DNA and technology could produce a high performance, multi seater vehicle, would they find a marketplace.

An automatic type transmission could also find it's way easier into these larger cars.

Other marques have followed this strategy, and with pretty good success. Even Ferrari produces more than 2 seaters. Even a recent station wagon : >)

Of course, the Coupe and Vert would always be the highest performance personal halo car, but the sales of the extended range would pay the bills for future development of the sports cars.

Great thread. World beating HP. Look at the success of the G3 or G4, no one was close on HP OR price, now we have mediocre HP and a high price (come on Mustang outranks us(ish) in HP)

I have a paddleshift car, fun as hell, but when it beats my viper, that's when I'm pissed.

1)Price(I know, not supposed to say this.. but); Fully loaded GTS no more than $125K, nicely optioned SRT $95K, car is miss-priced.
2)All Aluminum frame - The vette did it for a $60K car
3)700 Normally aspirated HP
4)Bring the front fog lights back
5)Gear it right
6)Fix the drone, please...
7)Tighten the panel gaps on the rear hatch.

Chrysler does not make Viper frames, Metalsa makes them (in Mexico). Metalsa has a full capability to make aluminum chassis for Viper. Lotus Evora is a good example of how it could be done. The front mounted transmission and driveshaft should be abandoned as well. I like your suggestions.:2tu:

Please get rid of the clown shoe look. The gaps look ridiculous on this car. Gen IV body looks so much sleeker.

I can't afford it, however I'd like to see more of the GEN II design to the rear lights and front bumper and head lights. EVERYTHING else is perfect!

Looks are so objective. I thought the GEN III/IV looked OK but left me feeling lukewarm compared to GEN II. I BELIEVE the GEN V is damn ****...it's the curves. You see? Looks are subjective. Also, I just looked at an '14 GTS yesterday and the panel gaps have improved. I don't believe they need to change anything except open the ECU.

I've mentioned this in a few other threads, figure I could mention it here.
Engine work would be cool. Fully forged internals. Dry sump. CNC heads. CF engine covers and intake box. Is a 2 piece intake out of the question? CF upper, bellmouths on the runners?

Set the automotive world on fire with a stout bullet proof engine. Who cares if it doesn't have twin turbos or DCT. Do something no one else has. Is a 700+ hp bomb proof and beautiful NA V-10 possible? That will generate buzz and sell more cars than $7500 interiors.

to make you more likely to purchase one what would it
be,

Not NEEDING a dealership to fix ANYTHING - EVER!

I shouldnt need a dealership to turn on a heated seat, or
replace a tire, or swap out a speed sensor, but on my
challenger all three REQUIRED a dealership visit. That
is unacceptable. I like to work on my own car thanks.

That being said, if I could trust it, the price would be the only
other thing holding me back.

We at SRT Engineering are, of course, very interested to know what Viper owners have to say on this (and we can recognize who the owners or intenders are, vs the Pretenders...). We take to heart all of the 'legitimate' feedback we see here. Please keep it coming, thank you.

But guys, come on, when I see people complaining 'that there are 2 models of Viper', or claiming that they won't buy a new Viper due to 'visible wheelhouse screws', I see bull****; those are people who didn't take the question seriously. I mean, really, you didn't buy a new Viper because we offered 2 models?! Wouldn't a reasonable buyer just pick the one they liked better and get on with it?....perhaps a more honest answer for them may have been that 'I'm not in the market now and won't be soon'. That's fine (and please just pass on answering this thread at all, if that is the case, honestly).

But if you are planning to buy a supercar soon, but aren't closing the deal on a Viper, take this opportunity to tell us 'why not'.

Please, be sincere. Did you really test-drive a Viper? Have you seen, or even sat in a new Viper? If so, what did you like, and what did you not like?

As we've well read, the Gen 5 owners on these forums REALLY like their cars. They log on here to debate "issues" here and there, but (little reminder here) they don't come to Viper forums because they hate their cars; in fact, they log on every night because they LOVE them, for reasons the intenders may too:

The Viper is a singularly passionate, and alive car, in many ways that the 'great' German cars of today are not. The car is freaking addictive to drive, so I understand the love these owners express. It is amazing to drive a 640hp rocket to work (or whereever) every day! Please forgive my brief infomercial, now I'll log off ;)

I think it is great the you SRT are looking on this forum, and that you are listening. I have had 5 Vipers Gen 1 to gen 4 ACR. What love about Vipers is the power and looks. Love the new Gen Viper very good looking. I am now Viperless for awhile now. Have a 458 Ford GT and a couple of 911 turbos and some other cars. I have not driven the new Viper yet. What I like that I have seen on the new car is upgraded interior, looks,more power of the new Viper options. What I would like to see is a return of the look of engine like the Gen 2 or 3. Not a fan of plastic intake and plastic engine cover. Like the look of my 458 engine red aluminum intake ect. Quality control, more power would be great. Also why not a forced induction option down the road. A convertible and an ACR version. Also, hearing about the limp mode that happens when you burn out needs to be fixed. And a dual clutch option would be nice. Thanks for you time. Long live the Viper!

I think the 'clown shoe' look was toned down significantly in GenV. I don't really see it anymore. But yeah, its the basic form.

Gaps - they look better in newer cars. I was looking at the Tomball inventory, and some have massive rear hatch gaps, and some don't. I imagine that could be adjusted out? Or is it really the panel itself is too small, and they made it bigger in later runs (doubtful)??

Adequate headroom from the factory - don't care how it's done - so the taller guys can maximize their track experience.
