Limp Mode but drives fine next day?

Hey guys Iv got an issue with my 08 viper with full belanger headers and exhaust. I was driving it somewhat hard 120kms high rpms in 3rd and 4th gear when the car went into limp mode halting and driving very rough. I pulled over turned the vehicle off waited a minute and started it back up and no CEL drove fine and brought it back home. Next day I started it and the CEL was on. I ran the scanner and it threw 3 codes:

P0430- catalytic converter operating under efficiency bank 2
P0420- catalytic converter operating under efficiency bank 1
P2404- Evaporative emission system leak detection pump sense circuit range/performance

Any input as to why the car went into limp mode and what they issue might be now?

Before taking a wild guess based on your screen name, I first must ask if your Viper is green...and, if your fuel injectors are the "72......" series?

Yes my car is green and I am not sure if the fuel injectors are the 72 series. What does that mean?

Some of the earlier 2008 Vipers carried a serial number starting with "72"...several digits long. This number is on the injector itself...right next to part number. Raise hood and look !!



Some of the "72" series have failed causing limp mode. Interestingly, Dodge will replace ONLY a given failed injector and NOT all 10. Admittedly, of the ones I have seen, there was also a code for misfire and/or injector malfunction. Did your Viper have its cam sensor replaced before or immediately after the sale? Ask your dealer to run your VIN. This was covered by an RRT (Rapid Response Transmission).

Finally, your O2 sensor wires may be suspect...especially if not heat shielded considering the headers.



Those are my WILD GUESSES of the day given the scant history provided.

I will check under the hood but I am guessing it is an earlier 2008. Does Dodge replace the fuel injector even if the car isnt under warranty anymore?

I am the 2nd owner and I dont believe the cam sensor was changed I will have to look into it.

As I recall, the injectors are about $70-80...doubt help from dealer, but you never know. Putting your car on a wiTECH at the deslershould help with diagnosis.

If dealer runs your VIN, you may get history of past warranty services.

Don't spend money on my wild guesses!!

I had this issue with mine as well, I had 2 Bad injectors 72 code. Dodge replaced all ten under warranty but mine was only a couple months old

Did you bang it off the Rev Limiter really ******, a couple of times?
That can cause the car to go into limp mode.
