I have begun the search for my Viper in earnest. I have spent only some track time in generation 2 cars and love the twist and the grip, as well as the sound. I am very excited to be joining the ranks. I would appreciate any advice that comes up for those already owning the cars. I do have a budget and it leaves me in the up to '99 kind of market. I live in a great area with lots of twisties and not much traffic. It is, however a cooler coastal climate. My present Mroadster(01s54) has heated seats and windows and we often use both. So I have the 97 and up thing(easy windows) concerning my particualar climate. I also really like the side pipes and the raw 94/5 feel. Please offer any advice and feedback concerning the two models, especially those of you who have owned both. Really looking forward to participating on this forum as I love to mod fast cars and share ideas with other enthusiasts. John

Hey, congratulations on your "about to be a Viper owner" status. I'm very excited for you. It'll be great to have your Viper experiences/knowledge added to the Viper forum.

I live on Vancouver Island and it also has great roads (curves, mountains, ocean side, etc.) for a Viper. I have a 94 RT/10. I drive it year round and other than having a little too much thrust for the rainy season, it is fine. I have the stock zip up windows and softtop and do not have any problems with being cold or rain coming in. Of course the V10 puts out a fair amount of heat to warm up the cockpit!

I've often thought about getting a 97 or 98 GTS (I personally think those were the best years) but I'd have a hard time giving up the ability to take the top off. In my humble opinion, nothing looks better than an RT/10 with the windows and top off and I go that way starting with the first warm days in spring until the last in fall.

I guess it all depends on budget, get the latest model car that you can comfortably afford...and leave a little bit in the wallet for mods...cause chances are you'll make a few. Horsepower (or rather torque) is just too addictive and you'll likely get the bug after a couple weeks of driving your car.

Patrick, thanks for the feedback. I live in Mendocino, which is a similar, if not quite as rainy a climate. I apprecaite your situation as I am most interested in RT10 as I have another fast car that does the hardtop chores so I want ******* driving. I love Vancouver Island, maybe we'll drive up sometime for a high speed tour!!

Actually, neither was a difficult decision. I wanted an Gen 1 RT/10 so I bought one. Then I wanted a GTS so I bought one of those.
