Hi,

I recently joined the forums as I'm ready to buy the car of my dreams (1999 black and silver gts acr). I currently live in Houston, TX, and found the car that I want in San Ramon, CA. I'm looking to find a local, experienced shop that can give me a full inspection of the car and following this I'm going to fly in to look at it myself. Does that sound like a good idea? I understand from the owner that the car has been serviced by Valaya Racing and after poking around here, that seems to be a reputable place. However, given that he has had the car serviced there, would it be a wise idea to have them complete an inspection? If not, does anyone know other local shops/people that would give a good inspection report. If anyone has any questions or suggestions please let me know. I will be extremely grateful for any help given to me.

Best regards,
G. Jan Schekman

dan cragin in in cali but not sure of location.

DC performace is his shop

Dan is a good 8 hrs away as his shop is in southern california. Valaya is sorta the only game in town... many (like myself) have to drive a couple hours to them. Great guys there... I'd have them do the inspection, but it wouldn't hurt to get another member to do a visual/second opinion on it as well. I'd offer, but I'm not much of a mechanic.

Best color combo (in my opinion). Only 35 made in that color combo that year, at least 2 have been totaled (one being a past car I owned). Here is my current one.

I would not have a problem in having Ted at Valaya Racing do the inspection. He is pretty objective and honest. He will tell you the condition of the car, the history as well as what needs to be done.

Is the car for sale by a VCA member? If so contact Maurice Liang @ [email protected]. He can tell you about the owner and possibly the history of the car.

San Ramon is a bit of drive for me but if you do have Ted look at the car,let me know. Valaya Racing is only 3 miles away from my job. I would be willing to drop in, take some pics and provide my observations of cars cosmetic condition.

Man, I'm very impressed with the responses so far. Great to find a car club with such enthusiastic and helpful members. Glad to have some responses showing Ted would be objective and I'm going to give him a call in a little bit. I'll probably take one of you guys up on your offer to go and check it out as well. Looks like I'm gonna have to scrape some of my remaining cash together to sign up and be part of the club officially.

As far as I know, the current owner is not a VCA member. I'll send out some *** to the people graciously offering their time to help me out. Once again, thanks for the great responses.
